Use Xmanager 3.0 for Linux Remote logon Management

Usually, the familiar Putty and Secure SSH software are basically unable to start the program or process of the window service or achieve the purpose of Remote Desktop control Linux. In many cases, remote logon and desktop control of Linux are also very necessary and important management work. This article will introduce the methods and techniques for using Xmanager Remote Desktop to control Linux.

X is a graphic support system used in most UNIX systems. If you use GNOME or KDE on your Linux machine, you are using the X system. It is defined and maintained by the x.org (www.X.org. Most Linux users use the X Window System provided by the XFree86 Project (www.xfree86.org. Xdm is a display manager that provides flexible task management functions. However, xdm is generally regarded as a "GUI login screen that can automatically start my X Tasks", and users will see that it is actually more powerful.

Xdm uses the X Display Management Control Protocol (XDMCP) of x to communicate with X servers. It allows the X server to obtain the session service from the server running the xdm service. When you use xdm to manage these X tasks, the settings are somewhat complicated. However, when xdm is set, you can get the desktop on the local server and other servers.

1. Configure the Xmanager Server

Xmanger is a shared software and runs on Windows control terminals. Therefore, it is very easy to obtain and install xmanger. We will not describe it here. You can easily obtain and install Xmanger over the Internet. The following is an introduction to xmanger 3.0. To use this software, you need to configure xdm on the Linux server. The configuration described here allows any XDMCP client to access the Linux Server desktop environment.

To use xmanger to monitor and manage remote Linux Through desktop, You need to perform the following configuration and File Modification on the remote-managed Linux:

1. Open the/etc/inittab file and change runlevel to 5, that is, id: 5: initdefault: If it is 5, no modification is required;

2. for Red Hat operating systems, open/etc/X11/TPD. conf file (for the Fedora series, it is/etc/TPD/custom. conf file) and find the [xdmcp] section to set the Enabled option to true or 1. Make sure that the "Port = 177" Statement exists, because port 177 is the listening port of the xdmcp service to be configured by the user;

3. Open the/etc/X11/xdm-config file, find DisplayManager. requestPort: 0, and add the character "!" before it.

4. Open the/etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess file, find the # * # any host can get a login window, and remove the first "#" character;

5. make sure that the attribute of/etc/X11/xdm/Xservers is 444 and that of/etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 is 755. Of course, there are some Linux operating systems, for example, in Red Hat Linux, you can see that the default attributes of these two files are 444 and 775, so you do not need to modify them;

6. If your Linux machine is configured with a firewall, you must add the following firewall rules to prevent the firewall from worrying over the data on port 177 (xdmcp service:

# Iptables-a input-p udp-s 0/0-d 0/0 -- dport 177-j ACCEPT

7. Restart Linux.
