The 6th part is the Java business application building PHP Web interface

Introduction: Build a PHP Web interface for Java™ business applications using the database created in the tutorials earlier in this series of articles (see Resources). The PHP Web interface collects information from users and sends session data to a Java business application for processing and responding accordingly.

Before you start

This tutorial is intended for aix®5.3 developers who want to quickly integrate PHP and Java™ in WEB application development. In this tutorial, you will complete the build process of a solution that uses PHP as a front-end, and a Java class that uses the questionnaire application as the back end. Before you study the final Solution for the PHP interface of the backend Java class, you will also look at the differences between WEB services and PHP Java Bridge interfaces, and between PHP and Java development methods. You should have basic Java programming capabilities and an understanding of the basic WEB development environment.

About this series

PHP is a very good Web development language, and Java programming languages are popular in business application development. As a result, PHP Java Bridge is specifically developed to leverage their advantages on the AIX Version 5.3 operating system. This series of articles provides AIX 5.3 developers with an overview of how to integrate PHP and Java technologies into their WEB application development.

To illustrate this, you will build a simple survey application based on the typical development process, including:

Developing a major Java application

Exposing Java applications as Java-based WEB applications through the Servlet

Adding support for storing information in a database

Exposes the original application as a Web Services and provides the PHP interface for the application

Re-developing the PHP interface with a dedicated PHP Java bridge

This series of articles consists of six parts:

Part 1th describes an application and builds a corresponding environment for building Java applications and performing java-based WEB applications using Tomcat.

The 2nd part introduces the main application code and the development of a simple Java Servlet to provide a WEB interface for information.

Part 3rd connects the core application to the db2® database to store the questions and answers to the questionnaire survey.

Part 4th transforms the original application so that it can be accessed as a Web Services and provides the basis for the PHP interface.

The 5th part uses PHP Java Bridge to build the PHP interface for Java applications.

The 6th part is a redevelopment of the application to use PHP Java Bridge instead of the Web Services interface.
