This directory was reserved for all the software and add-on packages, that is, not part of the default installation. For example, StarOffice, Kylix, Netscape Communicator and WordPerfect packages is normally found here. To comply with the FSSTND, all third party applications should is installed in this directory. Any package to being installed here must locate it static files (ie. extra fonts, clipart, database files) must locate its S tatic files in a separate/opt/' package ' or/opt/' Provider ' directory tree (similar to the the-in which Windows would insta ll new software to their own directory tree C:\Windows\Progam files\ "program Name"), where the ' package ' is a name that describe s the software package and ' provider ' are the provider ' s Lanana registered name.
