In the previous tutorial (http://www.jb51.net/article/97357.htm), we have created a Virtual PC in VMware Virtual machine management software, but have not yet installed the Linux operating system. Here, we continue to explain how to install the Linux CentOS version of the system to the virtual machine.

1. Click on VMware's Virtual machine interface, select the virtual machine CentOS6.6 that we created, and then double-click the emulated optical drive device in the virtual machine. The following figure:

2. Change the optical drive settings and use the ISO image file to install the Linux system.

3. Turn on the virtual machine, the equivalent of turning on the computer power to start the computer.

When you turn on the virtual machine, press the CTRL+G key or click inside the virtual machine to have the input directed to the virtual machine, and then press F2 quickly to open the BIOS interface of the Linux system. Because we are here to install the Linux operating system with a CD-ROM, the BIOS default first boot entry is hard drive boot. If you are in the real machine through the CD-ROM installation of the Linux operating system, you need to install, change the CD to boot as the first boot, the system is installed, and then the hard disk boot back to the first boot. However, installing the Linux operating system in a virtual machine eliminates the need to change the BIOS startup settings, and the virtual opportunities are automatically identified and adjusted. So we don't have to take this step here.

4. After the virtual machine is turned on, the disc settings of the virtual machine are changed to the following settings, that is, "connected" and "Connection at startup", as shown below:

5. If the disc image file is properly loaded and recognized, the following CD-ROM boot interface appears. If the error is correct, restart the virtual machine and ensure that the disc is set correctly.

The following is a brief introduction to the 5 options for the CD-ROM boot interface:

Install or upgrade an existing system: installing systems or upgrading systems (this option is used when installing systems).

Install system with basic video driver: Install systems with a basic graphics driver.

Rescue installed system: Repairs installed systems.

Boot from local drive: Exit Setup, boot from hard drive. Memory test: storage media detection.

6. Direct return, start the installation process. The following interface appears: Ask if you need to test the disc image file? Since there is no problem with the CentOS system image file that we download, we choose skip (skip detection) to speed up the installation process.

7. If all is normal, will enter the Linux graphical installation interface. The following figure:

8. Click "Next" next. Set the language used in the installation process, select "Simplified Chinese" here.

9. Click "Next" next, set the appropriate system keyboard, here Select "American English".

10. Click "Next" and select "Basic storage Device". Then, continue clicking "Next".

11. You will be prompted that the virtual machine's virtual hard disk may contain data, because we are the first installation of the operating system on the hard disk, the hard disk itself is empty, there is no data, so here Select "Yes, ignore all data."

12. Set the computer name of the Virtual PC with the default value. Click "Next".

13. Set the time zone of the Linux system, with the default value "Asia/Shanghai". Click "Next".

14. Set the password for the root account (root, or Super Administrator). Here, for convenience, set to 123456. Click "Next".

15. What kind of installation do you want to make? The default is "replace an existing Linux system", which means that the previous Linux partitions are removed and then automatically partitioned and formatted. Because we are learning to install Linux system, so incidentally also learn how to manually partition, select "Create custom Layout", to manually partition the virtual hard disk. Click Next.

16. Here's how to manually partition and format a virtual hard disk (you can skip this step if you chose not to "create a custom Layout" in the previous step). During a disk partition, the partition you must have is the root partition (the mount point is/) and the swap partition (without mount point), and the recommended partition is the boot partition (mount point is/boot). Partitioning is generally done in the order of the boot partition, swap partition, and root partition, as follows: First, create the boot partition (boot partition) and click "Create".

Select the standard partition and click "Create".

Start partition size allocation 200M enough, click "OK".

Then, you create the swap partition (swap partition), the type is still a standard partition, and the size is assigned 1024M. Click "OK".

Finally, create the root partition, which is still a standard partition, and select "Use all available space" (if you need to give other subdirectories, such as/home, allocate disk space separately, before the root partition). Click "OK". Here, we only create these three partitions.

Click "Next" to format the virtual hard disk. Click "Format".

When the format is complete, the following interface appears, indicating that the boot program is installed on the virtual hard disk. Use the default value and click Next.

17. When the partition and format operation is complete, an interface that selects the CentOS installation option appears. In general, if you are familiar with Linux, it is recommended to use "minimal" to minimize the installation. However, for beginners, if you choose to minimize the installation, will lead to commonly used software or commands do not exist, the beginner may be a bit unprepared, at this time, it is best to choose "Basic Server." Here, we also select the "Basic Server" option and click "Next".

The following is a brief introduction to these 8 installation options: Desktop: Desktop, that is, the installation of the graphical interface. Minimal Desktop: Minimize the desktop, that is, install a minimized graphical interface. Minimal: Minimal installation, no graphical interface. Basic server: Base servers. Databases Server: Database servers. Web server:web Server. Virtual Host: Web hosting. Software Development Workstation: Software development workstation. Different installation options, the system contains software or commands that are different when the Linux system is installed. (If you are familiar with Linux systems, you can choose "Now customize" and manually select the packages you want to install.) )

18. After the installation is complete, the following interface appears, informing you that the CentOS system has been installed and prompts you to reboot. Click "Reboot".

19. After the restart of the CentOS system interface, as follows:

This completes the entire installation of the Linux system. Tips, there are two shortcuts that are common to VMware Virtual machine management software.

Ctrl+g: The role is to direct input (mainly keyboard and mouse) to a virtual machine, or you can click inside the virtual machine.

Ctrl+alt: The role is to direct input to the real machine, which is to return the mouse and keyboard to your computer.
