Despite complaints from many users, Oracle's idea of shutting down the famous oracle Technical Support Portal Metalink does not seem to change. Metalink carries access and services from IT professionals around the world, it has a high position in the hearts of oracle users.
Oracle is promoting another Overall Support Program website (my Oracle Support, MOS) to replace Metalink. MOS uses emerging technologies such as Web 2.0 and social networks and uses flash for construction. Currently, oracle users can log on to the traditional Metalink or the New MOS website for technical support, but soon there may be only one option-mos.
Despite the nostalgia, there are more complaints. Because the New MOS website uses Flash technology, many enterprises' servers and clients do not have flash plug-ins installed, which may cause inconvenience to users, in addition, performance issues have become a hot issue for users.
A public opinion survey by Oracle DBA Jay Reid received over 600 replies, about 2/3 of which said they still prefer the classic Metalink. One of the replies is as follows: "so far, I am very disappointed. I certainly won't support MOs, and I guarantee 100% ".
An Oracle user in Europe emailed that the mos website is currently trying to modify to meet the access speed of low-bandwidth users, but this may not be necessary, but it may be counterproductive. An engineer who has been working as an oracle consultant for a long time said that more and more people are using mobile phone access, which is undoubtedly a huge challenge for MOS, while Metalink can do well, if a large number of small customers keep making complaints, I think Oracle will definitely reconsider this matter.
Oracle launched MOS for a reason, because in the last five years, Oracle has launched about 50 acquisitions, and the product line and customers are far more than just Oracle database product line users, in doing so, Oracle definitely wants to reduce the expenditure on technical support through a unified technical support portal, and is easy to control and can be well integrated with Oracle's CRM system, in this way, the customer may find the answer to the question faster.
According to the instructions, Oracle is currently striving to improve MOS and improve user experience. However, it is unclear whether the user complaint will prompt Oracle to reconsider Metalink's retirement. The Oracle spokesman did not directly reply.
Of course, not every Oracle user worries that one day Metalink is gone. An Oracle user wrote an article on his blog saying that Metalink is the worst site he has ever visited, for such people, Metalink must be closed.
At the same time, other users involved in the survey indicate that the unified MOS method is very helpful, which will collect the database and other applications.ProgramFor example, if your problem is related to both of Renke's products, using MOS is undoubtedly a better choice.
