XP + Ubuntu + Suse + MacOsX -- Linux general technology-Linux technology and application information. The following is a detailed description. By Sun Yi
After three days of hard work, we finally moved all four systems to the computer. I read a lot of articles from Qian and used some methods to summarize the three-day experience as follows:

1. Partition:

Since the hard disk can only be divided into up to four primary/extended partitions, in this way, if four primary partitions are directly separated, then four different systems are mounted on the four primary partitions respectively, it should not be difficult to see, but in this case, there will be no partitions for separately storing data.

I arranged it as follows: 3 primary partitions + 1 extended partition. Use pq8.0 for one-time partitioning. 10 gNTFS + 10gEX3 + 10gEX3 + 50 GB (all remaining. Divide the extended partitions as follows: 10 gNTFS + 1 gSWAP (Linux swap partition) + 20 gNTFS + 10gFat32

The systems installed in the three primary partitions are XP, SUSE, and Ubuntu. Extended partition: the first 10 Gb NTFS is used to install MacOs, and the 1 GB Swap is the Swap partition shared by SUSE and Ubuntu. 20 gb ntfs is used to store files in Windows. Therefore, the NTFS compression storage can save a lot of space. The last 10 Gb Fat32 is used for data sharing between four systems. Because the NTFS format except xp, the other three systems can only read and cannot write data.

2. install xp: There is nothing to explain. Just close your eyes and install it on the first NTFS primary partition.

3. Install SUSE10: Use a CD to start the installation. Note the mounting of system partitions and the installation partition of the boot program grub. (1) Select the Mount location of the root directory during the installation process. Do not use the Mount location recommended by the root directory. Use custom commands to manually Mount partitions. Log on to the partition manager. For ease, you only need to mount the "/" root and swap. Select hda2, double-click to format the partition format to Reiser, and select "/" at "mount point "/". Swap does not need to be mounted. You do not need to worry about the remaining partitions. After the system is installed, it will be automatically mounted. You can also mount hda1 one by one here, such as adding "/Windows/C" to the hda1 mount point, and so on. (2) In the last step of the configuration process before installation, set the Startup Program grub. Be sure to select the "Custom" below and load the Startup Program to hda2 as well, that is, (hd0, 1 )! The default value is hda (hd0 ). After completing these two settings, you can click "Install. Nothing left.

4. Install Ubuntu 7.10. Unfortunately, Ubuntu release 7.04 fails to be installed. Boot with a CD. Similar to SUSE, Ubuntu has fewer configuration items than SUSE. Also, pay attention to two points: system partition mounting and boot program installation partitions. (1) Similarly, to simply Mount only one "/", select hda3 and select "/" at the "mount point". SWAP does not need to be mounted. (2) In the same SUSE, the last step before the formal installation is started. The installation of the program should also be changed to the partition where the system is located. hda3 (hd0, 2 ), the default value here is (hd0). Manually change it to (hd0, 2 ). After these two items are installed, you can click "Install" in bold.

5. Install MacOs. Different from installing Ubuntu and SUSE, you need to do a job before installing Mac. During the installation process, there are already three systems, xp, SUSE, and Ubuntu. because of the installation sequence, grub in Suse only has XP and SUSE, while Grub in Ubuntu has all three systems. Boot with an xp installation CD and use pq to set the partition with xp to "Active ). The method is simple. In pq, right-click the first partition and choose "advanced"> "set as activity" from the shortcut menu. Restart to go to Windows. At this time, you cannot see SUSE and Ubuntu. Download the Paragon Partition Manager software online, change the ID of the first 10 Gb NTFS logical Partition of the extended Partition, and enter "AF ". The purpose is to make MacOs think of it as a file system of MacOs. Restart and use the installation disc of MacOs10 to install the partition. When you select to install the partition, the first logical partition of the extended partition with the ID changed. Click Install.

6. multi-system startup. After installing MacOs and restarting the machine, the hard disk cannot be started. Don't worry, this is normal. I personally think this is because MacOs is not installed in the primary partition, but is installed in the extended partition, resulting in no boot. Not far from success. Start with the tool disk. Use Pq8.0 to set the Xp partition as the active partition. After restarting, you can directly enter Xp. Copy the chain0 file from the MacOs installation disk to c: \ and open boot. INI file, add "c: \ chain0 =" other operating systems "" under [operating systems] (no outermost quotation marks), save and exit. Then restart. Before entering Xp, select Windows Xp and other operating systems, and select "other operating systems ", this is the Grub of MacOs. I am very excited to find that each partition of the hard disk (including the primary partition and logical partition) is listed in detail ), the system on each partition can be identified, including (hd0, 0) Xp, (hd0, 1) Suse, (hd0, 2) Ubuntu, (hd0, 3), and MacOs.

So far, the four systems have been installed.

7. When reinstalling the system, do not forget to install grub in the partition where the system is located. Do not use the default value. The default value is in (hd0) if you choose the correct one accidentally, the grub of the later installed system overwrites the previously installed grub, and the overwritten system cannot be started. Because Xp, Ubuntu, and Suse are directly installed in the primary boot partition, And the boot program is installed in the respective partition, the independent re-installation of the system will not affect each other. (Make sure that the grub of MacOs is complete)
