EMC targeting start-up Xtremio? Do you want to provide extremely high I/O performance for your full flash array?

First, EMC has a Isilon scale-out file system/Large data array with InfiniBand. Also, EMC has launched the Vfcache based on SLC to keep hot data as close to the server as possible.

There are two enhancements. First, according to the EMC Flash storage Chief Technology Officer Daniel Cobb:

-Automatic Vmotion
-Duplicate Data deletion
-Policy-managed cache, similar to fast VP tiering software that automatically migrates data
-May add cheaper, but higher-capacity MLC Flash

We may see these features from the next generation of Vfcache.

The second way to get hot data closer to the server is to plan to increase the shared flash memory between the back-end storage arrays (such as Vmax, VNX, Isilon) and the server by connecting to the server's thunder.

The idea is that thunder processes data through front-end-enabled Vfcache servers with back-end storage arrays, and shares the data at high speed between servers, and perhaps the fast VP automatically layered data between back-end arrays, thunder, and separate server Vfcache.

Let's keep this in mind, and then look at Xtromio, which is developing a full flash array with the following features:

-Very high performance, highly efficient and significant business case
-Horizontal scaling through Peer-to-peer nodes
-High availability Enterprise storage arrays
-Innovative architecture and storage algorithms
-Simplify configuration
-a big step toward the marketplace in I/O and latency performance
-Unique new features that are not available for hard disk storage
-Eliminates the complexities that affect SAN storage configuration and tuning
-Avoid complex tuning processes for widely used instances

It is said that the Xtremio full flash array deployed in the data center will:

-Dramatically improve performance
-Accelerated Application
-Support for higher workloads and more competitive prices than traditional disk arrays

Examples of usage include virtual server and virtual Desktop infrastructure, database consolidation, analytics, and business intelligence.

Xtremio technology can be scaled horizontally through peer-to-peer nodes, which sounds a bit like Isilon technology. In fact, we saw EMC eyeing the small start-up, thinking that Thunder might be able to use Xtremio technology, Isilon. Thunder and Isilon products using Xtremio technology will be a powerful foundation for the Greenplum analysis platform. We can see the long-term vision of EMC executives.

Of course, Xtremio is funded by the wind, and gets about 25 million dollars. Assuming a premium of 5 times times, EMC will pay 125 million dollars and look like a viable deal, don't you think?
