Part 6: Enabling BIOS
After a problem occurs during self-check, various short sentences may appear. The short sentences contain very important information. You can solve some small problems by yourself, however, some of these are difficult to understand. Below are some common explanations of BIOS short sentences. You can refer to them.
1. CMOS battery failed
Chinese: The CMOS battery is invalid.
Explanation: This indicates that the CMOS battery is almost dead. You only need to replace the new battery.
2. CMOS check sum error-defaults loaded
Chinese: an error is found when CMOS performs all checks. The preset values must be loaded.
Explanation: in general, this sentence indicates that the battery is almost deactivating. You can try another battery first. If the problem persists, it indicates that the cmos ram may be faulty, if it takes less than a year to change a motherboard at the dealer's place, after a year, let the dealer send it back to the manufacturer for repairs!
3. Press ESC to skip Memory Test
Chinese: memory check in progress. You can press ESC to skip this step.
Explanation: this is because the second, third, and fourth tests of the memory are not set to be skipped in the CMOs, and four memory tests are executed at startup. Of course, you can also Press ESC to end the memory check, however, this is too troublesome every time. You can select BIOS featurs setup after entering coms settings, set quick power on self test to enabled, and store and restart.
4. keyboard error or no keyboard present
Chinese: the keyboard is incorrect or not connected.
Explanation: Check whether the keyboard connection is loose or damaged.
5. Hard Disk install failure
Chinese: hard disk installation failed.
Explanation: this is because the power cord or data cable of the hard disk may not be properly connected or the hard disk jumper is improperly set. You can check whether the connections on the hard disk are inserted to check whether the Jumper settings of the two hard disks on the same data cable are the same. If they are the same, you only need to set the jumper of the two hard disks differently (one is set to master and the other is set to slave ).
6. Secondary slave hard fail
Chinese: failed to detect slave Disk
Explanation: it may be due to improper CMOS settings. For example, if a slave disk is not set but a slave disk is set in CMOS, an error will occur, in this case, you can go to COMS settings and select ide HDD Auto Detection for automatic hard disk detection. It may also be that the power cord or data cable of the hard disk may not be properly connected or the hard disk jumper is improperly set. For the solution, refer to 5th.
7. Floppy Disk (s) fail or floppy disk (s) fail (80) or floppy disk (s) fail (40)
Chinese: unable to drive the floppy disk drive.
Explanation: The system prompts you that the drive cannot be found. Check whether the power cord and data cable of the drive are loose or are connected incorrectly, or place the drive on another machine for a try. If none of this works, so I had to buy another one. Fortunately, the soft drive is not expensive.
8. Hard Disk (s) diagnosis fail
Chinese: An error occurred during hard disk diagnosis.
Explanation: the hard disk is faulty. You can try it on another machine. If the problem persists, you have to fix it.
9. Memory Test fail
Chinese: Memory detection failed.
Explanation: Re-plugging the memory stick to see if it can be solved. This problem occurs generally because the memory stick is incompatible with each other. Please change one!
10. Override enable-defaults loaded
Chinese: The Current CMOS settings cannot start the system. Load the preset values in the BIOS to start the system.
Explanation: Generally, an error occurs during coms settings. You only need to go to COMS settings and select load setup defaults to load the original value of the system and restart the system.
11. press tab to show post screen
Chinese: press the tab key to switch the screen display.
Explanation: some OEM manufacturers use their own display screen to replace the preset BIOS boot display screen, we can press the tab key to switch between the preset BIOS boot screen and the manufacturer's custom screen.
12. Resuming from disk, press tab to show post screen
Chinese: Resume boot from hard disk. Press the tab to display the boot self-check screen ).
Explanation: some motherboard BIOS provides the suspend to disk function. If we use the suspend to disk method to shut down, the prompt message will be displayed at the next boot.
13. hareware Monitor found an error, enter power management setup for details, Press F1 to continue, del to enter setup
Chinese: an error has been detected in the monitoring function. Go to power management setup to View Details and Press F1 to start the instance.Program, Press the Del key to enter the COMs settings.
Explanation: Some mainboards have hardware monitoring functions, which can be used to set the temperature monitoring of the mainboard and CPU, the voltage output accuracy monitoring of the voltage regulator, and the monitoring of the fan speed, when the above monitoring feature detects an exception at startup, the above message appears. You can select power management setup in coms settings, in the ** fan monitor **, ** thermal monitor **, and ** Voltage Monitor ** on the right side, check which part has triggered an exception and resolve it.
Another version:
(1) BIOS Rom checksum error-system halted
Translation: an error is found when the BIOS information is checked (checksum), so it cannot be started.
Resolution: it is usually caused by incomplete BIOS information refresh. Refresh the BIOS of the motherboard.
(2) CMOS battery failed
Translation: The CMOS battery is invalid.
Resolution: This indicates that the power of the CMOS battery is insufficient. replace the battery.
(3) CMOS checksum error-defaults loaded
Translation: an error is found during the CMOS check. Therefore, the preset system setting value is loaded. Resolution: This usually happens because the BIOS settings are incorrect. Therefore, we recommend that you set the bios again. If the problem persists, check whether the battery power of the motherboard is sufficient. If the battery does not have a problem, it may be that the BIOS chip has a problem. Ask a professional for repair.
(4) display switch is set incorrectly
The switch configuration error is displayed.
Resolution: jumper on an older motherboard can be set to a monochrome or color screen. This message indicates that the settings on the motherboard are different from those in the BIOS, therefore, you only need to determine who is correct for the motherboard and bios, and then update the wrong settings.
(5) Press ESC to skip Memory Test
Press the "ESC" key to skip the memory check.
Resolution: if you do not set a Quick Start in the bios, the system will perform a physical memory test. If you do not want to wait, you can press the "ESC" key on the disk to skip or enable the "quick power on self test (Quick Start)" function in the BIOS.
(6) Hard Disk initizlizing [Please wait a moment ...]
Initizlize is being performed on the hard disk.
Resolution: this message is invisible to newer hard disks. However, on an older hard disk, this message is displayed because it is slow.
(7) Hard Disk install failure
Translation: hard disk installation failed.
Resolution: in this case, check whether the power cord and data cable of the hard disk are properly installed, or whether the hard disk jumper is set to an error (for example, both are set as master or slave ).
(8) Hard Disk (s) disagnosis fail
