After you click the Install button for changes made in the MySQL installation wizard, the MySQL installation help starts the installation process and changes the system as described in the following sections.
Change Registry
In typical installation, MySQL installation helps create a Windows registered key value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MySQL AB.
MySQL installation help creates a key value based on the main version of the server being installed, such as MySQL Server 5.1. It contains two string values: Location and Version. The Location string contains the installation directory. In the default installation, it contains C:/Program Files/MySQL Server 5.1 /. The Version string contains the release number. For example, to install MySQL Server 5.1.2-alpha, the key value contains a 5.1.2-alpha value.
These registration key values help external tools identify the installation location of the MySQL server, and do not need to scan the entire hard disk to determine the installation path of the MySQL server. You do not need to register a key value when running the server. you do not need to create a key value when using the noinstall Zip file.
Change the startup menu
MySQL installation helps you create a new entry in the Windows startup menu. use the MySQL menu and name it based on the installed MySQL main version. For example, if MySQL 5.1 is installed, MySQL installation help creates MySQL Server section 5.1 in the startup menu.
The following entries will be created in the new Start menu:
? MySQL command line client: this is a shortcut of the mysql command line client, which is configured to connect as the root user. Enter the root user password in the shortcut prompt during connection.
? MySQL server instance Configuration Wizard: this is a shortcut for MySQL Configuration Wizard (Configuration Wizard. Use this shortcut to configure the newly installed server or reconfigure the existing server.
? MySQL document: you can connect to the document stored in the installation directory of the MySQL server. This option is unavailable when the MySQL server is installed using the basic installation method.
Change file system
By default, MySQL installation helps install the MySQL 5.1 Server to C:/Program Files/MySQL Server 5.1, where Program Files is the default location of the system application, 5.1 is the main version of the MySQL server. This is the recommended new installation location for the MySQL server, replacing the default location c:/mysql.
By default, all MySQL applications are saved to the directory C:/Program Files/MySQL, where Program Files is the default installation location of the application in Windows. The typical MySQL installation on the development machine should be:
C:/Program Files/MySQL Server 5.1C:/Program Files/MySQL Administrator 1.0C: /Program Files/MySQL Query Browser 1.0 this method makes it easier to manage and maintain MySQL applications installed on a specific system.
