Typical manifestations of hardware resource conflicts: When you add New hardware or add new hardware after the system often no reason to crash, black screen, startup, no reason to enter safe mode; The sound card and mouse do not work properly or go completely; hold down the ALT key and double-click My Computer icon to view the system properties when an exclamation point appears ; the printer and floppy drive are not working properly. Of course, also can not rule out computer virus mischief, because some virus attack will also appear similar phenomenon, so can not generalize.

The main reason for hardware conflicts: When you add new hardware, your newly added hardware consumes computer resources such as IRQ interrupts for existing devices, DMA channels, I/O addresses, and resource conflicts between old and new hardware. This will result in one or more hardware devices not working properly, or the consequences of system instability.

Check the resource conflicts by holding down the ALT key and double-clicking My Computer/system properties with the mouse to view the working status of the hardware device. In general, if there is a problem with the system, there are usually three prompts: 1. After formatting the hard disk and reloading the system, the yellow "? ”。 It means either a hardware driver error or a resource conflict. 2. When adding new hardware to your system, a blue with a circle appears! Resolution It means that the device can be used basically, but the system thinks it has a problem and still works properly. 3. When adding new hardware to a computer system, it causes a serious conflict and a red "x" number appears. It means that this device does not work or that the device does not exist, it will enable the system to often start in "safe mode" or often remind you to search for new hardware at startup.

As far as I know, the hardware that causes computer hardware resource conflicts is mainly between the PCI1 slots or between the PCI slot and the mouse interface and the COM1, COM2, and between the ISA slot and the printer LPT1. Video card conflicts with the motherboard is better to judge, the general system often in the "Safe mode" to start or often at the start to remind you to search for new hardware, often remind you to search the latest video card driver. For example: The conflict between the I740 video card and the use of the VIA693 chip motherboard. There is also a conflict between an AGP video card and a PCI sound card, but such conflicts are rare.

Hardware resource conflicts are not difficult to resolve, but the preferred solution is to be able to replace the hardware that caused the conflict. If the conditions are not allowed, we have to use the following methods to solve.

First, change hardware resource settings

First step: Click Start/Settings/Control Panel, and double-click the System/Device Manager tab. When you click the problem device, click the Properties button. Go to the Properties Settings window for the device, select the Resources tab, and use the pen to log the problematic IRQ interrupts, I/O addresses, and DMA channels on the Resources tab as standby on paper.

Step Two: Modify the hardware resource configuration. In the Properties Settings window of the device, select manual configuration on the Resources tab. Before configuring, we should first understand some hardware knowledge and hardware resources occupy situation. Generally, the major resource occupants should be the most important sound card, it occupies at least one IRQ interrupt, two DMA channels and multiple I/O address, followed by a SCSI card, which occupies a part of the I/O address and an IRQ interrupt and a DMA channel, and modem card and Nic are the larger system resource occupants. When modifying the hardware resource configuration, we should first find the device in question. Generally in the system properties of the Device Manager window, you will find the above three kinds of prompts. and choose the appropriate solution for each prompt.

The first kind: yellow "? ”。 For this prompt, you should first download the latest driver for the device. After downloading, remove the device in the System Properties/Device Manager window and click the Refresh button in the System Properties/Device Manager window. Follow the prompts to reinstall the driver. Then, look at the yellow one in the System Properties/Device Manager window? "Whether it still exists. But strictly speaking, this conflict is not a real conflict, it is mainly because the system does not correctly recognize the hardware, or the driver is not correct. There are exceptions, however, that the driver is in conflict with the system software, and the general upgrade driver can solve the problem.

The second type: blue with a circle! Resolution This prompt indicates that the hardware works and that the driver is installed correctly, but that part of the device conflicts with other hardware on the system. In general, this conflict can be resolved by replacing the slot for the hardware. I have encountered an instance of a PCI 64/128 sound card with a acer3d mouse conflict. I have used two ways to resolve the conflict. The first method is to select the problem device and click the Properties button in the System Properties/Device Manager window, and then select the Resources tab. First remove the hook before the "Use automatic Settings" item, and then select the problem device and click the Change Settings button. In the device Properties window that pops up, select a "value" with no conflict and click OK to resolve the problem after reboot. The second way: in the BIOS, changing the interrupt for this device can also resolve the problem.

Number three: Red "X". Represents the hardware corruption or a serious conflict between the hardware and the system. It is now not working properly. You can also resolve the problem by replacing the slot for the hardware. There is an example: I have used MSI 6199VA motherboard, when the PCI1 slot inserted is an innovative PCI64 sound card, in the addition of a "Gold net PA" modem card with the sound card conflict. The conflict was resolved after replacing the slot repeatedly. Some non-Plug and Play devices can resolve conflicts by setting jumpers on the board. For example, some old SCSI hard drive interface cards can be set to resolve the conflict problem by setting jumpers on the SCSI card. You can also resolve the problem by modifying the value of the device's IRQ interrupt, DMA channel, and I/O address in the System Properties/Device Manager window.

Second, replace the slot

Replacing a slot is a simple and effective way to know that the VIA motherboard is not compatible, so friends using the VIA chip board should pay attention to compatibility when purchasing hardware. If you have five PCI slots on your motherboard, when you use more than two PCI devices, try not to use the PCI1 slots to avoid conflicts. When you add a new device, you should also read the specification of the device in detail.

Third, set the BIOS

When neither of these methods resolves your conflict, try masking some unused device ports in the BIOS, such as "Serial Ports (COM1, COM2)," "Port (LPT1), and infrared interfaces. When necessary, the USB port can also be blocked off. You can also set the PNP OS installed in the BIOS to Yes, which allows the operating system to reset the interrupt.
