After the download is complete, you cannot install it immediately, because you still need an Unuix or Linux-based operating system to install it. I personally use the Ubuntu operating system for installation, if you want to use this operating system to install Gamit, follow the instructions below to install Gamit. Other installation methods can only be searched by you!
Here I personally use the vmwarevm to install the Ubuntu operating system, but no matter how it is installed, you only need to install Ubuntu!
Detailed steps:
1. Install ubuntu;
2. Related updates to ubuntu [language packs]
3. Enable the root user permission system and install csh
4. Installation preparation
5. Install GAMIT
6. Configure csh. cshrc
I will not talk about the previous two steps shown above. You can refer to some other articles in [Linux community www.linuxidc.com]. I will mainly talk about the specific installation method of Gamit.

// 1. Change root permission and log on
----------------------------------------------------------------
1) Get the root permission
We always need to obtain the root permission when using Gamit, but the root permission is not enabled by default in Ubuntu. You need to open it by yourself, the following describes how to obtain the root permission.
In the Ubuntu operating system, open the Terminal (Terminal)-The red part for the input part:
1. yangsq @ my-laptop :~ $ Sudo passwd root
2. Password:
Then input yangsq's passwd
Terminal
1. Enter new UNIX password: 123
1. Retype new UNIX password: 123
3. passwd: password updated successfully
Input the root passwd two times. OK
2) log on with the root permission
I personally use Ubuntu 10.04, so after completing the previous step, I can log out. It is best to restart the Ubuntu System and the next interface will appear:
Here we select the other option, and then we will prompt you to enter the user name below. We will enter "root", and we will ask you to enter the password after you press Enter. Here we will enter the password we just changed: "123". After you press enter, the system will be logged on with the root permission.
