Failure phenomenon:
Some of the ThinkPad preinstalled mSATA SSD shipments do not have the Expresscache software installed, resulting in the inability to use the mSATA SSD as a cache.
Impact Range:
-The above problems may occur on the following models, but not limited to the following models:
ThinkPad T430, t430i, t430s, T430si, T530, t530i
ThinkPad W530
ThinkPad X230, x230i, X230 tablet, x230i tablet
ThinkPad L430, L530
ThinkPad Edge E330, E430, E530, S430
-Host configuration has the following SSD:
16GB or 32GB msata SSD
-Impact Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7
Reason Analysis:
Please refer to the following steps to confirm that the host is affected by this issue:
1. Open "Start" menu, click "All Programs", click "Accessories", right click "Command Prompt", select "Run as Administrator"
2. If prompted "User Account Control", click "Yes" to allow Windows command window to run.
3. Enter "Eccmd.exe–info" (without double quotes), press "enter" key. View the end of the command output, which is handled in the following scenario:
A "**error** eccmd Request device is not available"
This scenario indicates that the Expresscache software is installed, but the mSATA device is not configured properly. Uninstall the Expresscache software from the Control Panel---programs and features, and then refer to the solution processing in this document.
B "' Eccmd.exe ' is not recognized as a internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
This scenario indicates that the Expresscache software is not installed. Refer to this document solution processing.
C "Cache Read percent:x.xx%" (where x.xx% is some actual percentage)
"Cache Write percent:x.xx%" (where x.xx& is some actual percentage)
This scenario indicates that the Expresscache software is installed and running normally without further processing.
Solution:
To resolve this issue, first remove the primary partition on the mSATA SSD, and then install the Expresscache software. The Expresscache Software Installation Wizard automatically creates the necessary cache partitions on the mSATA SSD.
1. Open "Start" menu, enter Diskmgmt.msc, press "enter" key to open "Disk Management";
2. At the bottom of the Disk Management window, you can see that the identified mSATA SSD,16GB mSATA SSD is recognized as 14.91GB,32GB mSATA SSD recognized as 29.82GB.
3. The mSATA SSD may contain a "DATA2" partition with the drive letter "D:" or "E:". If this is the case, check to see if it contains the user's files or data, and if so, move it to a C disk or to a backup on a removable hard disk.
4. Right-click mSATA SSD and select "Delete Volume ..." To delete the primary partition of mSATA SSD.
5. After completion of the above operation, you can see at least 14GB unallocated space on the mSATA SSD.
6. Download the Expresscache software for Windows 7 systems (32-bit or 64-bit) from the attachment.
7. Double-click the installation file that you downloaded in step 6, install the Expresscache software as prompted, and reboot the system to complete the software installation as prompted.
