2.2.3 Install SQL Server 2000
Installing SQL Server 2000 is simpler and the process is similar to other Microsoft Windows products. We have installed SQL Server Standard Edition as an example, the installation process and instructions are as follows:
• Put SQL Server 2000 CD-ROM into the CD drive. If you have the Autorun feature, the installer splash screen will appear, or you can run the Autorun program directly on the CD. If the operating system is Windows 95, you need to select the i "Nstall SQL Server Prerequisites" option to install its missing corresponding software, protocols, and so on. Here we select "Install SQL Server Components", "Standard Edition", "Database server-standard Edition" option to install SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition database management software. The Welcome to the Install SQL Server 2000 dialog box appears next to the Computer dialog box that selects the software you want to install, as shown in Figure 2-1. The local Computer option indicates that the "remote Computer" is installed on a remote computer and that "Virtualcomputer" is installed on the virtual machine.
• Select the "local Computer" option, followed by the Select Installation Options dialog box shown in Figure 2-2.
If you select the Advanced options option, the Advanced Options dialog box appears with three options:
· Record unattended. ISS file: Create an initialization settings file for automatic installation;
· Registry Rebuild: Repair of a damaged installation;
· Maintain a virtual server for failover Clustering: maintenance of virtualized servers.
• The "Create A new instance of SQL Server" option is typically selected in Figure 2-2, followed by the Input User Information dialog box as shown in Figure 2-3. When you enter a user name or company name, a copyright agreement information interface appears. When you choose to accept the copyright agreement, the Enter Product Serial Number dialog box appears.
• Next appears as shown in Figure 2-4, the Select Installation Type Options dialog box. Select the "Server and Client Tools" option to install the server and client tools.
• The Set Instance Name dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-5. Select the Default option or customize an instance name.
• Next appears as shown in Figure 2-6, the Setup Setup Type dialog box. You can modify the program installation directory and the data file storage directory for SQL Server 2000 in this dialog box. Typical Installation "Typical" does not install SQL code sample files and some development tools can choose the "Custom" option, customize the components to be installed, or fully install SQL Server 2000.
• The Custom Installation Component dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-7. You can select the SQL Server component you want to install as needed.
• The setting up service Startup Execution Account dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-8. You need to enter an account number on an NT network as the startup account for SQL Server to log on to the NT network so that the SQL Server service or SQL Server Agent service becomes a service on the NT network. This account must have been established by the network domain user Administrator, located in the Administrators area group, and set as password forever valid, can log in to NT network at any time or it is the domain user Administrator account. You can also specify the startup execution account for the SQL Server service or the SQL Server Agent service, respectively.
• The Setup Authentication Mode dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-9. You can choose Windows Authentication mode or mixed authentication mode.
• The Set up check mode (Collation) dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-10. A verification method is a set of rules that determines how data is compared to a sort display. SQL Server uses checksum information to categorize, sort, and display character data you can specify three sorts of ways to do this:
· Accent Sensitive: Dictionary sort, case-insensitive, with varying letters considered different;
· Case sensitive: Dictionary sorting, case-sensitive, and variable-tone letters considered different;
· Binary: Binary ordering, which is the fastest sort, faster than the accent sensitive sort fast 20%, faster than the case sensitive sort about 35%.
• Next, the Network Library Setup dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-11. If you are unfamiliar with network protocols, it is recommended that you use the default settings for SQL Server.
the options are described below:
· Named pipes (named pipe)
The default installation settings for SQL Server are used to allow local or network traffic on an NT network.
· TCP/IP Sockets (TCP/IP Sockets)
The default socket is 1433.
· Multi-Protocol (Multi-Protocol)
Multi-Protocol uses the Windows NT RPC (Remote Procedure call) structure to communicate. Multi-Protocol supports NWLink ipx/spx, TCP/IP, and named pipe protocols.
· NWLink ipx/spx
The protocols in Novell network.
· Apple Talk ADSP
Used by Apple Macintosh users to connect to SQL Server using Apple Talk.
· Banyan Vines
A network system supported by an Intel PC based SQL Server.
• The confirmation Start Copy File dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-12. If you no longer modify the installation settings, you can start copying files and doing the installation work.
• Finally, the end SQL Server Setup dialog box appears as shown in Figure 2-13.
