Sun Java wireless Toolkit (formerly known as j2wireless Toolkit) is a set of tools used to create Java applications that comply with Java technology for the wireless industry (jtwi) (JSR 185) specifications and Mobile Service Architecture (MSA) (JSR 248) specifications run on devices. It contains generation tools, utilities, and device simulators.

What are the new features of wtk 2.5.2?

  • Improved support for multi-user environments
  • Ubuntu Linux is built based on library glibc 2.3 and can provide untested support for other Linux distributions.

Sun Java wireless toolkit provides many excellent functions presented through standard APIs. These APIs are defined through Java Community process (JCP:

  • Mobile Service Architecture (jsr248)
  • Java technology for the wireless industry (jtwi) (JSR 185)
  • Connected limited device configuration (cldc) 1.1 (JSR 139)
  • Mobile Information device profile (MIDP) 2.0 (JSR 118)
  • PDA optional packages for the j2-platform (JSR 75)
  • Java APIs for Bluetooth (JSR 82)
  • Mobile media API (mmapi) (JSR 135)
  • J2-web services Specification (JSR 172)
  • Security and trust Services API for j2e-jsr 177)
  • Location API for j2e-jsr 179)
  • Sip api for j2e-jsr 180)
  • Mobile 3D graphics API for j2r's (JSR 184)
  • Wireless messaging API (WMA) 2.0 (JSR 205)
  • Content handler API (jsr211)
  • Scalable 2D vector graphics API for j2-jsr 226)
  • Payment API (jsr229)
  • Advanced multimedia supplements (JSR 234)
  • Mobile internationalization API (jsr238)
  • Java binding for the OpenGL (r) es API (JSR 239)

You can also develop applications for cldc 1.0 and MIDP 1.0.

Sun Java wireless toolkit 2.5.2 includes all the advanced development functions in Sun Java wireless toolkit 2.2, Sun Java wireless toolkit 2.5, and Sun Java wireless toolkit 2.5.1, for example, more functions such as MIDlet signature, certificate management, integrated wireless protocol (OTA) simulation, and push registry simulation.

This version of Sun Java wireless toolkit includes Nokia's scalable network application package (SNAP) mobile API and snap mobile sample application as part of the Toolkit's external API functionality. Snap mobile is a combination of client software and server infrastructure. It allows you to create online multi-player games in communities. For more information, see the snap mobile Web site http://snapmobile.nokia.com /. The simulation environment, development resources, and support for SNAP mobile are available through http://www.forum.nokia.com/games/snapmobile.
