At that time, various integrated development environments (IDES) in the Java development landscape presented a flourishing situation, from Borland's JBuilder to IBM's visual age for Java, the jdeveloper of the WebSphere studio, oracle, Sun's Forte for Java, webgain Visual Cafe, togethersoft's together, as well as open source Eclipse, NetBeans, and more than 10 kinds. So many kinds of ides thrive on the Java development stuff family, but it also presents a challenge for developers to choose from. The IDE's development environment is quite different, and projects developed in one development environment cannot easily be ported to another development environment, which requires more careful selection of the development of the appropriate project approach.

In all of the Ides of the time, Eclipse was one of the best products to expand the way out. The eclipse was started by OTI and IBM two companies ' IDE product development group, starting in April 1999. IBM supplies the beginning of the Eclipse Code Foundation, including platform, JDT, and Pde. Led by IBM, the Eclipse project has now become a huge eclipse alliance, with more than 150 software companies participating in the Eclipse project, including Borland, Rational Software, Red hat and Sybase, Recently Oracle is also planning to join the Eclipse Alliance.

Basic concepts

Before learning to use eclipse, it is necessary to explain the terms of this project.

Eclipse is an open source software development project focused on providing a fully functional, commercial-quality industrial channel for highly integrated development. It consists of three projects of the Eclipse Project, the Eclipse artifacts project, and the Eclipse Skills project, each of which is supervised by a project management committee and managed by its project charter. Each project consists of its own subproject, and the Common public License (CPL) version 1.0 is used to allow the protocol.

The Eclipse Stuff Project provides a focal point for different creators to ensure that the best things are created for Eclipse platform. The Eclipse Stuff Project mission is to nurture the creation of a wide range of things for Eclipse platform. The project provides a single point of contact to reconcile open source code to the creator, then minimizes coverage and repetition, and ensures the maximization of sharing and the creation of components together to facilitate seamless interoperability of different types of things. The items are made up of sub-projects proposed, selected and developed by the Project Management Committee of the East and West Developers Committee and the East-west project.

The Eclipse Skills Program's mission is to provide new channels for open source developers, researchers, colleges, and educators to participate in the evolution of eclipse in the future. It is organized according to the three project flows of research, training and education, and research projects are explored and discussed in the areas of eclipse, such as programming language, things, and development environment; Training projects are small, unstructured projects that add new talent to the Eclipse Software Foundation Education projects are concentrated in the development of educational materials, educational assistance and courseware.

Eclipse platform is an open, extensible IDE. Eclipse platform provides the foundation for creating blocks and building and running integrated software development. Eclipse platform allows something creator to independently develop things that seamlessly integrate with others you don't have to distinguish where a thing ends and where another thing starts.

The

Eclipse SDK (software developer Package) is a component merger of 3 sub-projects (Platform, JDT, PDE) of the Eclipse project that can be downloaded one at a time. These parts together provide a rich development environment that allows developers to effectively create something that seamlessly integrates into Eclipse platform. The Eclipse SDK is a combination of what is produced by the Eclipse Project and third-party software that comes from other open source code. The software produced by the Eclipse Project is released by Cpl, and the third party components have their own allowable agreements.
