Methods to view under Windows:

Method One,

Enter "Winver" in the start → run, if your system is 64-bit, it will clearly indicate "x64 Edition".

Method Two, (recommended)

Enter SystemInfo carriage return in the CMD window to display the system details,

One of the observation system type , marked is x86 based PC,

i.e.: System type: x86-based PC

The description is 32 bits, otherwise 64 bits "marked :" x64 Edition".

How to view under LI Nux:

Method One:

File/sbin/init or File/bin/ls

/bin/ls:elf 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for Gnu/linux 2.6.9, dynamically linked (uses shared Lib s), for Gnu/linux 2.6.9, stripped

If 64 bits, 64 bits are displayed, or 32 bits if 32 bits.

X86_64 represents 64-bit machines

i686 represents 32-bit machines

i686 is only a subset of I386, supported CPUs starting from Pentium 2 (686), previous models do not support

Note:
1. i386 applies to all 32-bit CPUs of Intel and AMD. and via 32 CPU with X86 architecture.
Intel platforms include 8086,80286,80386,80486, Pentium Series (1.2.3.4), Celeron series, Pentium D series
and Centrino P-m,core duo and so on.
2. x86_64 applies to Intel's Core 2 Duo, Centrino Core 2 Duo, and Xeon and AMD Athlon64/x2, SEMPRON64/X2, Duron64 and other 64-bit CPUs with X86 architecture.
3. PPC applies to Apple Macintosh G3, G4, G5, PowerBook, and other Non-intel models
