Yeah it's reasonably simple.
You just use imagecopy () or imagecopyresized () to copy an image (or part of an image) onto another one.
If you are working with lots of big images then it can be very memory intensive, so you may need to increase PHP's memory_limit with ini_set () to at least 64 MB.
