How to configure the computer to automatically obtain the IP address

When I configure a NETGEAR Broadband Router for the first time, how do I configure the computer to automatically obtain the IP address? We will give you an example of WGR614v5.

I. Some new features have been added to the new version of WGR614v5:

1. before the configuration is complete, the wireless light is in the "not bright" status. Therefore, some users think that the device is broken when it is started. In fact, it is not necessary to configure the device once, wireless lights are on;

2. During the first configuration, the Internet port of WGR614v5 or the WAN port needs to be connected to the Internet for configuration. You can directly connect to the Internet or connect to the Internet through an existing network;

II. Environment

Environment configuration in this example:

COMPUTER: Wired/wireless computer + WINDOWS 2000/XP

Vro: NETGEAR WGR614v5

Internet: without the routing function (or the routing function is disabled), one adsl modem and one ADSL line

Note: First remove or disable the wireless network card, ensure that only one network card on the computer is connected to WGR614v5;

Iii. configuration process

First, we need to set the computer to automatically obtain the IP address, the process is as follows:

1. Click 'start'

2. Select 'control panel'

3. Select 'Network and Internet connection' or 'network connection'. The following window is displayed:

5. In the displayed window, select 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) 'and select 'properties ':

6. The following window is displayed: Click here and select OK after entering the items:

7. Select "OK" -- à "close", which indicates that the computer has been set to automatically obtain the IP address.

8. at this time, power up WGR614v5 and connect the computer to one of the ports 1, 2, 3, and 4 of WGR614v5 in wired mode, your computer will get an IP address 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.xxx (xxx indicates others, the range is 1 ~ 254); verification can be performed in the following ways:

9. Click 'start', select 'run', enter 'cmd' in 'run', and select 'OK'. The following window appears:

10. This window is 'dos ', enter 'ipconfig' in it, and press 'Carriage return' on the keyboard. the following address is correct:

The address of the computer is 192.168.1.xxx. In this example, It is 192.168.1.2. If it is displayed as 169. xxx. xxx. xxx. restart the computer and run ipconfig in the DOS window to check whether the IP address is obtained correctly.
