To establish a sample network, you need to make the following specification of the naming:
The server will be built in an imaginary domain named aspdomain.com. Each server has a unique internal domain name. asphosting.com, where ComputerName is used to refer to one of the following servers:
* asp-fe-01--front-end protocol server;
* asp-ad-01--Active Directory server;
* asp-exch-01--Back-end Exchange server.
The following table lists the names and features of each server and provides the appropriate sample IP address.
In the installation process, you need to refer to the following table for action.
After the server is established, a directory is assigned to an imaginary company named Customer1. If you want, you can also add another imaginary company named Customer2.
For ease of administration, you should create the following Active Directory groups:
* Allusers@customer1 This group will contain all users belonging to the customer1.com.
* Admins@customer1 This is an administrator group that you can use to grant administrative rights to companies that accept hosting services in the Customer1 organizational unit, to set security policy for administrators in the Customer1 domain, and to create an assignment list for Customer1.
When you configure DNS, you need to create the following external DNS names for level two domains, such as www.Company1.com:
* Standard (main) area;
* Mail Exchange (MX) records for each virtual domain (such as customer1.com);
* The alias (A) record for each physical computer, such as www and mail.
After completing the steps above, you can install and configure the Exchange 2000 and active directories on the front-end and back-end servers of the network, performing the following tasks:
* Install Windows 2000 and Active Directory;
* Install Exchange 2000 on the back-end server;
* Install Exchange 2000 on the front-end server;
* Activate front-end server;
* Allow anonymous connections;
* Configure a smart host for SMTP mail routing.
The following is a detailed procedure for the above tasks:
1. Install Windows Advanced Server;
2. Use the Dcpromo tool to install the Active Directory on the asp-ad-01;
3. Install Exchange 2000 on the asp-exch-01;
4. Install Exchange 2000 on the front-end server;
5. Install Exchange on the asp-fe-01;
6. Activate the Exchange server as a front-end computer;
7. Close the Protocol service.
