Initial preparation: preparations before installing the linux System

People who are used to windows operating systems must have a layered experience of unix and linux, and I am no exception. With curiosity, I decided to install another linux system on my own machine (my machine is already running windows). First, I was curious, the second is to fill the head with some new knowledge, and more importantly, it is necessary for work.

A few years ago, there were very few linux users throughout the country and the world, and many people did not even hear about this term. However, in the next few years, people gradually realized the linux system and found many benefits. The number of users suddenly increased from a handful to millions. According to professional personnel statistics, linux is one of the fastest growing systems in the world. With the popularization of linux, various versions of linux have also been available. In the past, the focus of linux was to deploy the system on the server, which is also launching an entry into the client market. Today's desktop version of linux attracts more and more pc users and wants to see the style of linux Desktop.

1. Select the Linux version

Different from windows systems, linux systems have rich connotations. Its free distribution, free use, and version updates and improvements have made its promotion recognized by users. Linux systems that are widely used include suse, debian, open linux, and turbo linux. They all adopt the linux core idea of Linus Torvalds, the father of linux. For beginners, as long as they are familiar with the use of one of the versions, they will be able to use it in other versions.

Among the many versions, I chose Red Flag linux desktop 6.0 (codenamed sylph). The company's popularity and charm are unquestionable. The launch of this version draws on the previous release experience, integrates the needs of current market users, and integrates the sharing technologies of many industry partners, this makes sylph not only an upgraded version of open-source components, but also a brand new linux desktop design attempt. This is why I chose this version. I believe it will surprise me and give me a satisfactory answer.

2. Data Backup

This is an important part. As the name implies, data backup is a process of retaining data in some way so that the system can be retained or reused under other circumstances. Before installing the system, you must back up important data to the storage medium you trust. Full data backup can avoid unexpected installation and unnecessary losses. Just like the backup key in our life, once the commonly used key is lost, we can use the backup key we have prepared.

3. Preparation of Hard Disk Space and Its partitions

On the basis of installing windows, I installed a virtual machine to implement dual-system installation. Therefore, my linux and the existing operating system need to use the same hard disk, so you only need to prepare enough hard disk space for linux during installation. Tip: If you can record the space and usage of each drive letter at any time, it will be helpful for system installation later.

Generally, a Linux version not only provides Web, FTP, SMTP, NNTP, Telnet, Samba, and other network services, it also provides a variety of network client software, graphics processing tools, multimedia applications, word processing software and small games. Therefore, we need to consider the space required for software kits and Development kits after system installation.

4. Several Basic Terms

Hard Disk partitioning: a hard disk can be divided into multiple partitions, which are independent of each other. Accessing different partitions is like accessing different hard disks. There are three types of partitions: primary-partition, entended-partition, and logical-partition ). A hard disk can have up to four primary partitions. If you want to have more than four primary partitions on a hard disk, you need to create an extended partition and then divide the logical partitions on the extended partition.

Unpartitioned space partition: the defined partition does not occupy the entire hard disk, and an unused hard disk also belongs to this type. In this case, you can create necessary partitions in a space that has never been used.

Space in unused partitions: In the past, one or more partitions were used in other operating systems, but they are no longer used. Delete these partitions and create the corresponding linux partitions on them. You can run the fdisk command under DOS or in the configuration partition step of the installation process.

In the days to come, I will share with you how I feel about using red-flag Linux!
