KDE Developers today released the third Beta version of KDE Desktop Environment 4.0. This version further polishing the KDE code base and freezing the KDE development platform. KOffice 4.0 Alpha 4 is also released along with KDE 2.0 Beta 3.
KDE 4.0 Beta 3 improved Plasma Components, PIM software, and educational software. Plasma now provides basic components such as the taskbar, panel, and desktop wallpaper. KAlarm In the PIM kit has been fully transplanted to KDE 4 and has gained some new features. KPilot is ready to be transplanted to KDE 4. In the education software, KVoctrain has been renamed as Parley; Marble now supports new 2D projection; Step is now able to embed formulas in notes.
Other improvements in KDE 4.0 Beta 3 include the fact that Gwenview has been migrated to the Kdegraphics module of KDE 4, and Konqueror has a new default preset file, KWin can now automatically detect graphics and hardware and automatically adjust the configuration to the optimal performance. KLinkStatus is introduced.
KOffice 2.0 Alpha 4 improved support for OpenDocument and provided many new formula functions for KSpread. KChart now has a new Flake shape.
