Oracle installation includes both the Enterprise server and the client side, and users can choose different parts of the installation according to the actual situation.
 here on the enterprise server side as the main introduction object, the client's installation method is relatively simple.
 server-side installation is divided into: Typical installation, minimum installation and three kinds of custom installation.
 client installation is divided into: Administrator Client, programmer client, application User Client, custom installation client.
System Requirements
1. Hardware Requirements
The minimum memory configuration is 128MB, and it is recommended to use 256MB;
Hard disk swap partition is at least 400MB or more than twice times the memory can also be;
Hard Disk Size requirements:
Server Typical Installation 750MB
Minimum installation 675MB
Custom Installation 1GB
Client Administrator 350MB
Programmer 260MB
Application User 150MB
Custom Installation 470MB
2. Software Requirements
Linux system kernel requirements are V2.2 or above version;
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) requirements are V1.1.6 or above;
The system must support X window.
Pre-Installation Preparation
1. System Kernel Modification
Make the following modifications to the/usr/src/linux/include/asm/hmparam.h document:
Value modified by Modified amount
Shmmax Memory Size *0.5
Shmmin 1
Shmmni 100
Shmseg 10
Make the following modifications to the/usr/src/linux/include/linux/sem.h document:
Value modified by Modified amount
Semmni 100
SEMMSL processes parameter +10
Segmns all database processes parameter sum +10
SEMOPM 100
SEMVMX 32767
After the parameters have been modified, recompile the kernel with the make DEP, made clean, make Bzimage command, and start the computer with the new kernel.
2. Establishment of System user and installation directory
In Oracle's technical documentation, it is recommended to establish two groups of--oinstall and DBAs for the database, but in practice, the author found that Oracle can be installed without any impact on the use of the system as long as a DBA group is built; you need to add a user Oracle to the database, which belongs to the DBA Group , then establish the/u01/app/oracle/8.1.6 directory and set its owner to ORACLE.DBA.
3. Setting Environment variables
Not every environment variable's settings are required, but setting them can make your installation and usage easier, as you can see later in the installation process. Edit under the Oracle User home directory. Bash_profile to set environment variables:
oracle_home=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.6
Export Oracle_home/ includes a directory of ORACLE software /
ld_library_path=/u01/app/oracle/
Product/8.1.6/lib;
Export Ld_library_path
Oracle_base=/u01/app/oracle
Export Oracle_base/ includes directory and management software for ORACLE software /
Oracle_sid=orcl
Export Oracle_sid/ The identity of the default database /
oracle_term=vt100
Export Oracle_term
ora_nls33=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.6/
Ocommon/nls/admin/data
Export ORA_NLS33/ Language support /
Path= $PATH:/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.6/bin
Export PATH
For a user with a small memory, there may be an out-of-memory condition when Oracle is installed in X window, and the display variable needs to be set to output the X Window installation interface that should be exported locally to the host with the display variable set, as follows:
display=192.168.0.20:0.0
Export DISPLAY
Also set a variable on the output terminal: Xhost servername, which allows the server to send the X Window display interface to the terminal, which reduces the server-side workload and saves system resources at the time of installation.
4. Install Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
Since the installation of the database is based on the X Window graphical interface and uses a Java program, it requires the support of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE).
5. Set up the installation source directory
If the user is using a CD-ROM installation, the optical drive must first be mapped into a directory-"Mount/dev/cdrom";
If the user is using a downloaded tar.gz file, first unzip the file to the/tmp directory, and then authorize the generated installation directory to ORACLE.DBA.
Database installation
1. Oracle User Login system, access to installation source directory, run. /runinstaller ", began to install;
2. After entering the installation interface, click "Next" to set up the directory interface;
If the user's environment variable is set correctly, the table of contents in this interface will be set automatically, otherwise it is necessary to select the directory through the "Browse" button, and click "Next" when the setting is complete, and then go to the next step;
3. The rest of the work is very simple, as long as the prompts to do the basic no problem, but there are some of the following places to note:
Add "DBA" to the Unix Group Name field;
Select "Oracle8i Enterprise Edition";
Install type select "Custom";
Recommended installation content do not choose Intermedia, some technical information that this software operation is not very stable, why should we ask for trouble!
When asked whether to set up a database at the time of installation, select "No" because we want to build the database with the specialized tools provided by Oracle;
Two files must be executed as root during the installation process-just use the SU command to do the identity conversion.
4. The key is to prepare
As long as the preparation is not a problem, in fact, the process of installing the database system is very simple. From a technical point of view when the database set up all the parameters can be modified after the completion of the database, so the user does not need to worry about their settings wrong how to do, just look carefully at each step in the prompts on the line. Here I have a small suggestion: if the user is a beginner, build the data.
