Partition Table types supported by Apple
The MAC system supports the following three hard disk partitions:
It is a new partition table used by Intel processor Apple computer, also known as guid Partition Table and GPT, which is a part of the EFI standard. For details, see Wikipedia's explanation: guid parttion table
.
On an Intel processor Mac computer, you can use guid and APM Partition Table hard disk to start the machine. GUID is the partition table format recommended by Apple.
For hard disks backed up by time machines, only partitioned tables in guid format can be used.
The boot disk cannot be created on the PowerPC processor machine. You must use the APM partition table format. For details, see.
Is Apple's standard, is Apple partition
The abbreviation of map. For a PowerPC-based computer, the hard disk can only use this partition table format as the system boot disk. If you install universal in the partition
For binary OS X systems, Intel-based computers can also start partition hard disks from such partition tables.
If the system compatibility (PowerPC and Intel-based) is considered, the partition table format should be used for the hard disk.
Abbreviation of Master Boot Record,
It is actually the first disk block on the hard disk. MBR is an old standard with many restrictions, such as a maximum of four primary partitions. Due to the wide use of compatible PC devices, Microsoft has never abandoned
So this partition table format still exists in the PC world. If this partition table format is used for hard disks on an apple machine, it is generally applied to external hard disks or USB disks,
In this way, you can take care of the PC to make it easier to transfer data. Mac OS X systems cannot start the system from this Partition Table Format hard disk.
A simple solution:

When a friend used tools such as ghost to restore the original system backup to the Mac computer, not only the original OS x system was lost, but how to install Mac OS
X system, the system prompts that the disk cannot be started. From the above explanations of different partition tables, it is not difficult to think that it is because the ghost tool only supports MBR partition tables,
After the system is restored, the original hard disk partition table is modified, while the MBR partition table cannot be used to start the OS X system. Therefore, the most important step is to change the partition table format.
Warning before using the following operations, back up data. This operation permanently deletes all data in the hard disk and may fail to be restored. If you cannot determine the consequences of your operations, ask for help from experienced or apple technicians.
The simplest way is to use the OS X boot disc to start the Mac computer, and then select the disk tool (Disk
Utility), first Delete the disk, so that you can delete the original MBR partition table format. Note that instead of deleting the partition, you can select the hard disk on the left, select erase on the right, and then re-
When a new disk partition is created, the default intel machine is guid. Of course, you can change it in options.
Or, use the command line to enter ternimal and type the following command to recreate the partition:
Diskutil partitiondisk disk0 1 gptformat journaledhfs + $ erasedvolume 9999g |
Confirm that the system may prompt you to enter the Administrator account password. The system will create the first hard disk partition and create an HFS + partition.
