New Quadrooter vulnerability affects 0.9 billion Android devices
Android phones and tablets using Qualcomm chips have discovered four vulnerabilities that may allow attackers to control the entire device. This group of vulnerabilities is called Quadrooter, and the number of affected devices may exceed 0.9 billion. Affected devices include Google's Nexus 5X, Nexus 6 and Nexus 6 P, Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, and the self-proclaimed safest Android phone, BlackBerry DTEK50. To exploit the Quadrooter vulnerability, attackers need to trick users into installing malicious applications without special permissions. If the vulnerability is successfully exploited, attackers can obtain the root permission to completely control the device, including data, camera microphone, and other hardware. A Google spokesman confirmed that a wide range of vulnerability fixes could not be pushed until March.
