Oracle has made a difficult decision to remove the Tzupdater tool from the public download area. This tool is used to update the Java internal Time zone database and allows the user to adjust the Java installation to get the correct time zone settings. Oracle decided to remove the tool when it decided not to update Oracle JDK 6, only for customers that it supported. The reason is not known, and this change also causes JDK 7 users to not keep the time zone data updated.
Time zones are data that is regularly adjusted and kept synchronized by authorities around the world. TZ Database, formerly known as Olson, is a reference implementation of all this information. was discarded in 2011 due to copyright problems. The database was updated after it was moved to the Internet Address Assignment Authority (IANA).
The Tzupdater tool works with this database, converts the data into Java-required formats, and updates the time zone data in the Java installation.
Oracle has now tzupdater the download of the tool, which can be downloaded here, please see the documentation for details.
