Perens: We recommend integrating IETF to promote Linux development.

Free Software advocate Bruce Perens advocates the Internet Engineering Task Group IETF) and people with similar ideas. An Internet Engineering Task Group is a key standard organization on the Internet. Perens is a Linux developer who has jointly established the Open Source Code Initiative (Open Source Initiative) to help develop the Debian version of the Linux language. Perens claims: "The advantage of IETF is that people can join freely. The real task of this team is to develop an email list. What we need to do is to build a free software community better than today ."
After the IETF conference in Atlanta, Perens proposed this integration plan. At the IETF conference, the Team discussed face to face whether to revise or clarify the existing policies of the Organization regarding the integration of patented technologies into the Organization's standards. Currently, IETF policies allow the use of patented technologies. However, when the CEN W3C and other standards organizations re-adjusted their intellectual property policies, the IETF launched a campaign to create patent technology freedom. Perens and Working Group Chairman Steve Bellovin claimed that the campaign had not made substantial progress from the informal polls at the IETF conference in Atlanta.
In an email interview, Bellovin claimed: "To treat people attending this meeting fairly, we conducted a public opinion test on intellectual property policy. There was no consensus on whether to modify the existing policy or against the change. That is to say, if this deadlock persists, IETF will not change its existing intellectual property policy ." Bellovin said Perens's idea of integrating standard organizations or working groups is unprecedented, but there is no regulation in IETF's rules and regulations that can block such a movement. Bellovin claims: "in my memory, no one is trying to integrate the team. I think anyone who wants to do this will be criticized. I think most people in the Community will think that this is an attempt to control the most equitable, free, and open standard group ." Free software designers and advocates have expressed dissatisfaction with the emergence of patented technologies in industrial standards.
Perens insists that he wants to organize more freedom software advocates into the IETF, which is by no means a power conspiracy.
