You can. If the host name points to 127.0.0.1, oracle does not recognize it.

3. After/etc/hosts is modified, xmanager cannot be logged on.

Cause: for oracle, localhost is also directed to the static IP address in hosts, instead of the default 127.0.0.1.

Replace hosts
