Functions of IDC layout and cable management

The concept of a green data center should include two parts: energy saving and environmental protection. Energy Saving not only saves energy, but also energy saving. There are many ways to save, including power saving, cooling device consumption, device backup and redundancy, and space saving and all resource saving in the data center.

For the source equipment, reducing power consumption is the focus, and the second is air conditioning and cooling. While data center consumption involves all aspects of work, the ADC company specializes in the production of data center wiring products, focusing more on data center layout and cable management.

In terms of layout, there are three points worth attention in the data center. The first is space saving, the second is effective cable management to improve air convection channels, and the third is to improve the reliability of equipment operation. The correlation between reliability and energy saving is that, due to the improvement of reliability, all associated costs will be reduced, and the reduction of maintenance and management costs will indirectly play a role in energy saving. Reasonable layout and space saving

Reasonable and effective cable layout and reasonable network structure play an important role in saving energy, saving energy and reducing consumption.

Currently, the data center has two main construction areas: centralized cabling and two-level cable management, mainly network switches.

The switch in this way uses the IDG data center standard. The first-level switch directs directly to the server and can directly reach the user server through the cable.

The use of two-level switches is mainly to save the pressure on cabling of cables, from the primary switch to the first Cabinet of each cabinet, a second-layer switch is placed in the first Cabinet, the primary switch and the L2 Switch are connected by optical cables. The head cabinet switch connects to each server through a network cable. It saves the number of cables from the primary switch to the user server.

ADC advocates centralized one-time cabling. The core switch is directly distributed to the user server through a network cable. On the surface, the number of cables is increased, but it is outstanding in energy conservation and environmental protection. This method can save 7% ~ The Rack Space of the 9% data center can save about 90 rack spaces for 1000 normal cabinet spaces for one data center.

At the same time, the two-level wiring will increase the layer-2 switch, thus increasing energy consumption. If backups are added, a large amount of backups will be added, which will increase energy consumption and waste of ports. Currently, each additional 1 W of device power consumption increases the power consumption by 2.8 W, including cooling and device power consumption. Centralized wiring can reduce the number of redundant devices and eliminate port waste.

In addition, you must consider the wiring position. Wiring is in the central area of the entire network room, which can reduce the length of the network cable on both sides. This is the consideration of the layout method, which will save a lot of space. Currently, the domestic cost of 1 m² million data center space is about 0.14 million yuan. If space is saved, the energy saving goal will be achieved, because saving is a manifestation of energy saving.

Cable management

Because the density of the cable management and wiring is related to the heat dissipation efficiency of the cables and data centers, if the cables are chaotic, it is difficult to heat the source equipment. If the cables are smooth, this will save some energy consumed by refrigeration equipment. There are many other things in the IDC wiring, including rational cabling. Rational cable management can prevent blockage of cooling channels caused by chaotic cables and improve cooling efficiency.

Another point is to advocate the concept of cross-connection. Cross-connection can reduce the workload of maintenance personnel and facilitate maintenance and management. There are two popular methods: Cross-join and direct connection. Cross-join can bring a lot of convenience. Only one side of the Direct Connection Is Connected permanently, while the other side is connected directly. Both sides of the cross connection are connected permanently, and the front side is completed by using a jumper. This method is very convenient and easy to maintain and manage, reducing downtime.

High reliability

Reliability is actually saved. If there is a problem with the data center, it will cause great losses to enterprises, including users. The loss caused by one-minute interruption may be millions or tens of millions. Therefore, the reliability of the IDC is very important.

Security Management

Currently, there are two management methods in the industry: one is that a switch is directly connected to a user server, and the other is a two-pole switch. The second-level switch of a bipolar switch has a cabinet at the position of each column header, which has poor security. Because the second-level data center is hosted in many places, many enterprises rent it, put many enterprises on servers, and the maintenance personnel and technicians should come to the location. If the active cabinet is located in this location, the security of the switch will be threatened, because people are easy to access.

The centralized distribution area can be well separated from the user area. This prevents others from accessing your vswitch. Therefore, this method is better in terms of security. It can also improve the security of the entire data center, because the management interface is better divided.

Saving instrument maintenance

If the centralized mode or centralized wiring is adopted, the meter is placed in front of the switch and can be operated. If the active device is scattered, the number of meters needs to be increased and the maintenance personnel need to increase, this will increase the cost.

IDC savings include both initial investment and maintenance costs. At present, opex costs are growing rapidly. For example, the cost of electricity consumption has increased to more than 50%. The annual consumption of electricity is very high, and other costs are also very high.

A reasonable network structure and cable layout in the data center, excellent cable management products, and a forward-looking and reliable concept are very important for green data center construction.

Advanced Infrastructure Construction

The construction of the basic network must be advanced. Currently, some data center construction is not forward-looking and can only meet the needs of the current five or eight years. What should we do if the construction of the basic network is 10 or 15 years later? Both transformation and new construction require a large investment, resulting in new waste. Therefore, the basic network must be forward-looking. The longer a product is used, the more economical it will be. From this perspective, a forward-looking product can meet future needs.

IDC energy conservation and emission reduction standards should be a top priority

Everyone for energy conservation and emission reduction standards for reference, may be narrow understanding, the establishment of a complete standard is very important, now we mainly refer to the TIA-942 international standards, the national standard is not, and the TIA-942 is not complete, if you do it later, the standards will be better done. With reference standards, you will have a goal.
