Failure phenomenon:
Windows XP could have started, but Windows XP could not start the next time the computer was powered on.
Solution:
The reasons why Windows XP cannot be started are manifold, mainly hardware issues, CMOS setup issues, operating system software problems, below one by one
1. Hardware problem: After the new hard drive, the computer starts "black screen"
If your computer adds a new hard drive, Windows XP does not start, and the problem is that your newly added hard drive is displayed in front of your original hardware in the CMOS settings. In this way, the computer will boot from your new hard drive when it starts, but your new hard drive does not have an operating system installed, so this failure will occur. Workaround: In CMOS, Setup uses the original hard drive to boot.
Troubleshooting steps: Enter the CMOS settings, check the system boot sequence, set the original hard drive to start first. Or, if you are not familiar with the CMOS settings, if your hard drive is a SATA interface (serial hard disk, narrow data line) of the hard drive, please try to two hard disk data cable can be swapped. If your hard drive is a hard drive with two Pata (previous and port hard drive, data cable with 80 pin flat wide) interface, if you use a data cable for each hard drive, you can switch the data line; If the two hard drives are connected to the same root data line, you need to follow the instructions on the hard disk label to set the "master" of your hard drive. , "from" mode.
2. CMOS Setup Problem
The computer system may not start properly when the CMOS settings are not in place, or if your computer's CMOS battery is not powered up.
WORKAROUND: Restore the CMOS settings.
WORKAROUND: If the CMOS battery is not powered, replace the CMOS battery. If the CMOS settings are not appropriate, please find the computer or motherboard instructions, reset the CMOS. An easy way to do this is to restore the CMOS default settings and then press F10 to save the exit.
3. Missing files cannot be started
When your computer starts, you are prompted
NTLDR is Missing
Press Ctrl+alt+del to restart
Windows XP could not be started because the KRNL or NTLDR file could not be found.
Workaround: Use the Windows XP installation CD to recover the missing startup files, system files. Solution steps:
- Restart the computer and go to the CMOS settings, set the disc to boot first, and then save the settings to exit the CMOS.
- Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD drive when the Press any key to boot from CD is displayed. , press "SPACEBAR" or "enter".
- When you enter the Windows XP installation interface, as shown in Figure 1, press the R key to repair Windows XP.

In the Microsoft Windows XP (TM) Recovery Console, display the Windows XP installation that you want to log on to, if only 1:c:windows is displayed, type the number 1, and then press ENTER; If multiple Windows XP installations are displayed, Please type the corresponding number key and choose to log on to that Windows. After the "type administrator password" prompt, type the password for the Administrator account for Windows XP (the default administrator), and if the password is blank, press enter directly, as shown in Figure 2.

Enter the letter where the optical drive is located. Optical drive all the letters should be the first letter of all the drives on your host. For example, your computer has two partitions, the optical drive should be in E disk. After the c:windows prompt, type:
E:
DIR
This displays the folder on e disk, if you have a I386 folder in the directory that represents the installation CD for Windows XP, type the following command:
CD i386
Copy NTLDR
C:exit
After you restart your computer, you should be able to enter the Windows XP operating system.
4 black screen does not start
When the computer is not for the above reasons, always "black screen" after startup, or when prompted boot.ini illegal. Workaround: Use Windows XP to install the CD and repair the system
- Workaround: Reboot the computer and go to the CMOS settings, set the disc to boot first, and then save the settings to exit the CMOS.
- Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the CD drive when the Press any key to boot from CD is displayed. , press "SPACEBAR" or "enter".
- When you enter the Windows XP installation interface, press R to repair Windows XP.

- After you type the FIXMBR command at the c:windows command prompt, type Y after you decide to write a new master boot burn, and then press ENTER, as shown in Figure 4.
