Everyone is shouting for innovation. I am afraid I will never die if I want to question innovation. So I am not going to question it. I want to ask:

Question 1: What is innovation? Is innovation different from the previous one?

Question 2: How to create? If there is no target to try various changes, after a change has brought about good results, it will be fixed and can be called "Innovation "?

Next, I want to focus on design innovation. (I really don't understand other aspects .)

Design innovation is often noticed in the form of presentation. As for innovation in processes, information architecture, and presentation model, it is too hard to be seen or understood, although these are of greater value to a product, it is wise for designers who aim at innovation to create innovative forms.

Then we will focus on innovation in the form of expression (well, I am also wise). The innovation in the form of expression can be summarized as follows: Come up with something different from the past, it also produces a better expression.

This understanding is quite good. However, such an understanding leads to some blind innovations. Simply pursuing changes in form, such:

  

 

Previously, after clicking the button, a small window will pop up on the page. After clicking the button, let the small window go from the top of the page to the back. In fact, this is nothing more than an effect in the OS, but it can be considered a micro-innovation if it is transplanted here.

This is not a good result? Maybe it looks cool, but I'm afraid that's all.

There is no direction for such innovation, and various changes are attempted. It is a waste of money. Can it be more purposeful? Because there is only such an understanding of the concept of innovation that leads to the lack of a method for such innovation, can we have other understandings of this concept...

Here is my understanding...

The current understanding inherits the previous mistakes

Our current understanding seems to be my own independent opinions, but it is clear that this understanding is based on a lot of background knowledge. These foundations are previous and others' understandings, not all. What's more shocking is that even if we leave aside the background knowledge, my understanding may not be my original point of view.

  

 

Which of the three lines on the right is the same length as the standard line on the left? Apparently there are 2nd answers, but if the answers from the first 10 are 3rd, what would you do? The result of the experiment is that 37% of people believe in others' incorrect opinions. Herd means you believe it. It is not forced to answer the wrong answer, but you have made a wrong decision. Really scared ~

There are many similar expressions in the design. Well, maybe it shouldn't be called a mistake. It should be insufficient and not good enough. List, page Jump, form submission, and these basic objects are widely used in a product. Their existing forms may not be the most ideal, however, they have been used again and again.

Instead of blindly pursuing innovation in design, it is better to correct previous shortcomings and find a better expression.

Design is an expression. We use a series of expressions to deliver a product to users. There must be one of the best expressions, and what we need to do is find it.

Click a link to open a new page. In the original age of technology, the new page is directly flashed and remains in use. This form is not the best way to express it. It is too abstract. How can I pull this page out of this link? Where did the original page go? All of these require the user's abstract thinking to barely understand. Now, in some technically reliable environments, such page jumps can be more visualized, but most products still follow the original jump Method-Direct flash.

On the left is the Home Page. Click the three horizontal bars icon in the upper left corner. The home page slides to the right to display the tabs list on the left. How does the tabs list come from? It is more vivid, and the home page is more clear. This is a better form than the previous direct page Jump. Later, we followed suit.

A specific product is a new thing on the whole, but it must contain the list, page Jump, form submission... These previous objects. The representations of these objects inherit from the past.

If we can discover the shortcomings of these object forms, under the current conditions, achieving better forms of expression will become innovation. Of course, the value is big enough.

The small window is enlarged by the button. Where does this window come from, so the expression will become more vivid. The purpose of this change is to pursue a better expression, so that users can better understand what we want to express.

As for whether this can be regarded as innovation, it is just after doing the right thing, the outsiders evaluate the value of this right thing, and whether it is sufficient to receive a medal. Innovation is not an aim, but improvement is an aim.

"Discovering existing deficiencies and finding a better way" can be a further understanding of design innovation, an alternative interpretation of the concept of innovation, or a criticism of blind innovation. However, I think it is not so important to understand the relationship between it and the concept of innovation, because the concept of innovation itself is too broad. What I want to emphasize more is that, in design, more valuable things are the improvement of inadequate expressions, rather than blindly creating for innovation.

The above is my understanding of design innovation. As for other fields, technology development, business operations, marketing... I don't understand it, but maybe I should have similar ideas. Rational Understanding is always a little bit more difficult than just looking at a bit of chaos.
