Note: Windows XP cannot be installed in Enterprise Edition. WIN2000\WIN2003 Server Installation Enterprise Edition

One, hardware and operating system requirements

The following table describes the hardware requirements for installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server client management tools and libraries. Minimum hardware requirements for computers

Pentium 166 MHz or higher.

Memory (RAM) is at least MB, recommended for MB or more. According to the author's experience, memory capacity and data capacity can be maintained at a ratio of 1:1, so as to better play its performance. Hard disk space requires about 500MB of program space, and 500M of data space display is reserved

You need to set the 800x600 mode to use its graphical analysis tool

The following table describes the operating systems that you must install to use various versions or components of Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

Operating system requires Enterprise Edition of Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition, Windows Server, Windows Advanced Ser Ver and Windows Data Center Server. Note: Some features of SQL Server 2000 require versions that are older than Microsoft Windows Server Edition to run. So everyone installs Windows Server 2000 (recommended for advanced version), can learn and use more features to SQL Server 2000, and enjoy better performance.

SQL Server 2000 installation order:

1. Install SQL Server first (servers install Enterprise Edition)
2, Installation SQL2KSP4 (http://www.jb51.net/softs/2188.html)

Second, the detailed installation process

After inserting the Enterprise Edition CD-ROM into the CD drive, the following prompt box appears. Select Install SQL Server 2000 components, and when the next page appears, select Install Database server.

Select Next, and then select Local computer to install.

In the Installation Selection window, select Create a new instance of SQL Server .... This installation mode should be used for initial installation, and does not require the use of advanced options for installation. The content in the advanced options can be adjusted after the installation is complete.

In the User Information window, enter the user information and accept the software license agreement.

In the Installation Definition window, select the Server and Client Tools option to install. We need to install both the server and the client, so that on the same machine, we can do all the relevant things, which is useful for us to learn SQL Server. If you have installed SQL Server on another machine, you can install only client tools for access to SQL Server on other machines.

In the Instance Name window, select the instance name of default. The name of this SQL Server will be the same as the name of the Windows 2000 Server. For example, the author's Windows Server name is "Darkroad", then SQL Server's name is also "Darkroad". SQL Server 2000 can install multiple instances on the same server, that is, you can repeat the installation several times. You will need to choose a different instance name. It is recommended that you limit the instance name to 10 characters. The instance name appears in the user interface of various SQL Server and system tools, so the shorter the name, the easier it is to read. In addition, the instance name cannot be "Default" or "MSSQLServer" and the reserved keyword for SQL Server.

In the Installation Type window, select the Typical installation option and specify the destination folder. The default installation location for program and data files is "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\". The author because the C drive is the system area, D disk is the application area, so chose D disk. Note that if you have more than 100,000 database data, please reserve at least 1G of storage space to meet the huge demand for log space and index space.

Data will increase with the use of time, so the data files and log files should not be set in the system disk.

In the "Service Account" window, please select "Use unified account for each service ..." 's Options. In the Service Settings section, select Use Local System account. If you need to use a domain user account, add the user to the Windows Server's native Administrators group.

In the Authentication Mode window, select Mixed mode ... option, and set the password for the administrator "sa" account. If you are only trying to learn, you can set the password to NULL for easy login. If it is a real application system, then you must set up and keep the password! : If you need more security, you can select Windows Authentication mode, in which case only local and domain users of Windows Server can use SQL Server.

In the Select Licensing Mode window, enter (0 for no quantity limit) based on the type and quantity that you purchased. Per customer indicates the maximum number of connections allowed at the same time, and the processor license indicates the maximum number of CPUs that the server can install. (Don't choose too much, the more expensive!) ）

Then the installation time is about 10 minutes, after installation, the interface appears, and the following menu is added. If you are a beginner, you can first open "Books Online", do a simple study!
