India's three major mobile telecom carriers: butti Telecom, Vodafone-ESAR, and idea mobile
The company recently announced the establishment of a new company to share telecom infrastructure, which helps reduce telecom operation costs and promote effective competition in the telecom industry.
The three companies have consolidated their infrastructure services in 16 regions, including New Delhi, Mumbai, andara state, Georgia State, and Punjabi state, to create a company named Indus towers, among them, Batti Telecom and Vodafone-ESAR held 42% respectively, and idea held 16% respectively.
The new company has 70 thousand base stations in total and will provide infrastructure services to all telecom operators. According to the plan, the new company will add 50 thousand new base stations in the next few years to increase the mobile phone density in the above areas and cover the vast rural areas. The three companies will continue to retain their respective base stations outside the above regions.
The three operators said that the strategic action to share telecom infrastructure was to reduce the cost arising from the expansion of the operating scale and ultimately benefit consumers from the improvement of network service quality.
