Ubuntu resolves conflicts between pppoeconf and network-manager. 1. Update network-managersudo apt-key adv -- keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com -- recv-keys BC8EBFE8 at/etc/apt/sources from the PPA. list final add deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/trunk/ubuntu karmic maindeb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/network-manager/trunk/ubuntu karmic mainsudo aptitude updatesudo aptitude safe-upgrade 2 resolve pppoeconf and network-manager conflicts change/etc/NetworkManager/nm-s Managed = true in the ystem-settings.conf changes/etc/network/interfaces, leaving only auto loiface lo inet loopback to delete/etc/resolv. conf and then sudo/etc/init. d/network-manager restart if the Panel does not have the nm icon, ALT + F2 enter the nm-applet and add the self-start (not added during my installation) 3.
