Use InstallShield to package the VS Program

InstallShield is a packaging tool of Microsoft, which has its own advantages and disadvantages. Its advantages can be very good and convenient.. NET platform controls and the dll required by the program are packaged successfully. Its disadvantage is that pre-installation is required during installation (the main program is installed in advance) and the installation sequence based on features (installing the main program during installation) is unclear. Therefore, the package usually adopts the method of secondary iteration packaging. The first package uses InstallShield, and the second package uses Advanced Installer. This article describes how to correctly use the InstallerShield package.

1. InstallerShield Limited Edition is successfully downloaded and installed.

To download and install InstallerShiled, you must enter your own email address for registration and authentication. After registration, Microsoft will generate a registration code for downloading software. The registration code will take effect after authentication. After the packaging tool is successfully activated, the generated packaging project will no longer prompt that the package is an inactive version.

2. Generate a packaging project and click "General Information" to change the default settings

In General Information, there are three major changes:

In Releases, the main modification is the Compression in the DVD-5, where the default Uncompression, In this mode, the files generated after packaging is very messy. Therefore, we need to change the default value to compression. In this mode, the files generated by packaging will be concentrated under the DisImages file directory under the DVD-5. Provide sufficient preparation and convenience for secondary packaging.

4. Click "Project assistant" to go to the systematic configuration of the packaging Project.

2. Add the required file dll or folder

 

Note the following two points:

1. check whether all the dll files referenced in the program are copied to the local root directory. If not all dll files are added to the local root directory, set the dll attribute and add the dll files;

2. Avoid unnecessary errors in the referenced file directory because the Chinese path and path are too long.

3. Set shortcuts for Applications

In application Shortcuts, we need to do two things:

1. Change the name of the exe file, that is, the name of the application.

2. Select all create shortcut in Start Menu, create shortcut on desktop, and use alternate shortcut Icon.

 

 

After this step is performed on the packaging project, we can click Run. In this case, it should be emphasized again that InstallerShield Limited Edition should avoid Chinese paths and long file paths when adding files.
