Web Application Security Series: install and configure WVS (1)

These are the most urgent tasks in today's Web Application Security Field.

Today, we will discuss the specific installation of WVS. First, let's take a look at what is required for its installation:

System Requirements

· Microsoft Windows XP Professional edition or Home Edition, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista.

· MB memory (recommended for over MB)

· 200MB available disk space

· Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1 (or later)

· To support databases, install Microsoft SQL Server/Access

Installation Process

1. After downloading webvulnscan5.exe, double-click it to start the WVS Installation Wizard and click "Next ".

2. Read and view the license agreement. There is nothing to say. Click "I accept the agreement" and click Next to continue the installation.

3. Enter your username, company name, and license key. If you evaluate and try this product just like the author, you do not need to add content in the license Key box. Click Next to continue.

4. Select the folder where you want to install WVS and click Next.

5. Select whether to create a program shortcut on the desktop, and click Next to continue the installation.

6. After WVS is installed, it will prompt you to start the application. Select and click Finish as needed.

Note: by default, WVS considers that you enable the Access database feature that supports Microsoft. This is required for creating scan reports using Reporter. If you want to use Microsoft's SQ Server or MSDE database, you need to enter the required license.Upgrade process

1.double-click the webvulnscan5.exe file to start the WVS setting wizard. This installer automatically detects any version installed earlier and displays a dialog box for you to choose whether to continue.

2. Click Yes to continue the upgrade.

3. At this time, the uninstall program will start, it will verify whether you really want to uninstall the previous version of WVS, click Yes to complete the upgrade.

4. The following steps require careful selection:

If you plan to retain the previous scan results and use them in the new version, you need to select NO to keep the current database. If you want to clear the previous scan results and use the new version to start from scratch, you can select YES to clear the current database.

5. The uninstall process starts. After the installation is complete, click OK to continue the upgrade.

6. Next we will start a new installation process. The standard installation process discussed in the previous step is the same. I will not talk about it here.

7. Run WVS after the installation is complete. This application will display a dialog box to upgrade the previous settings. You need to click Yes to restore any previous configuration to a new version.Upgrade process

If your machine is located after a proxy server, you need WVS to use this proxy. Then you need to configure the proxy server settings.

Select "Configuration> Settings" from the tool browser panel on the left, and then select "Application Settings> LAN Settings" to access the displayed Configuration panel.

WVS supports both HTTP and SOCKS proxy settings. You can set WVS to use both technologies at the same time.

HTTP Proxy Settings

Use an HTTP proxy server: select this check box so that WVS uses an HTTP proxy server.

Hostname and Port: Host Name (or IP address) and Port Number of the HTTP Proxy Server

Username and Password: the confidential information used to access the proxy. If verification is not required, you can leave these options blank without setting them.
