Ms once again promoted the so-called "free things are not really free" market, but this time it was not Linux, but eclipse.

Is eclipse more costly than Visual Studio? ($0.1 million for eclipse and $2005 for Visual Studio)
Javalobby/eclipsezone has a discussion on this matter:

It is true that all kinds of plug-ins under eclipse are uneven, and free plug-ins need to be further improved, but ms vs is really so easy to use? I don't know, let alone the price of MS and the cost of each upgrade are quite scary. In contrast, Eclipse's core functions and many excellent plug-ins are free of charge. (If you remember correctly, the latest Visual Studio 2005 basic Express version will be sold for $49)
It seems that eclipse is not far from the goal of vs. At least it has obtained Visual Studio's hostility and a certain degree of "tit-for-tat. I don't know if Microsoft is targeting Java at the same time, but at least eclipse is much more successful than netbeans and intellij idea in terms of Ms attention/hostility.
