"Tenkine Server channel November 14 News" AMD recently announced that it will use its advanced development software tools to join open source communities and technology partners to enable "accelerated processor" (APU) products for the next generation server. AMD Academician Phil Rogers a keynote address at the 2013 AMD Developer Summit (hereinafter referred to as APU13), highlighting the remarkable progress made by AMD in developing software within AMD APU Technology and empowering others to develop software; AMD's APU technology enables the industry-leading AMD radeon™ image processing engine to combine with the x86 computing power on a single chip (both on a single chip, "SOC").

"The server must be efficient, scalable, and adaptable to meet the computational characteristics of the new and changing workloads," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, AMD Vice president and server business Director. The new software development tools are designed specifically for high density parallel computing and multimedia server optimization, and are characterized by high efficiency and low power consumption. We have developed a processor business roadmap to support the development of this opportunity, and now we are demonstrating the readiness of the APU software ecosystem and the ways in which developers can participate.

With the advent of an APU server based on heterogeneous system Architecture (HSA), AMD has developed tools that allow software developers to take advantage of the advantages offered by HSA. The HSA can support the CPU and GPU work harmoniously on a single chip, seamlessly migrate the right tasks to the most appropriate processing unit without any data loss, and allow more memory on the GPU so that complex processing tasks can accommodate a single node.

"For many server-side high-performance Computing (HPC) and large data analysis workloads," says Paul Teich, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and senior analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, a leading High-tech analyst firm, Combining AMD's upcoming HSA-compliant APU with the new "east-west" connectivity architecture, such as AMD's Freedom fabric and HP's moonshot--, is a potential game-changing factor.

Currently, AMD is collaborating with its technical partners and open source communities to provide developers with the right tools to create server applications that can leverage the CPU and GPU computing capabilities of their revolutionary, heterogeneous system Architecture (HSA) APU servers. The tools highlighted today in APU13 include:

Project sumatra--This is an Open-source project that Oracle and AMD have been working on, allowing developers to write code in the Java language and use GPU computing capabilities;

GCC/HSA project--This is a joint project between AMD and SUSE, designed to support the popular Linux open source compiler gcc, support heterogeneous system architectures (HSA), and for OpenMP APIs;

PGI accelerator™compiler--This is currently available as a beta release, enabling developers to add OPENACC instructions to Fortran, C, and C + + programs under Windows and Linux systems that support AMD APU and independent GPU;

clmath--This is the OpenCL math library that AMD contributed to the open source community in August, allowing developers to improve the speed of general computing and engineering computing tasks running on AMD Apu and independent GPU;

Arrayfire 2.0 for opencl--This is a quick math library created by Accelereyes to use Clmath for GPU computing and to provide Easy-to-use APIs for developers under Windows or Linux systems;

Codexl 1.3--This is an AMD development kit for Windows and Linux systems, with remote debugging and profiling capabilities to support server application developers.

AMD's several technical partners supporting the APU server ecosystem have also participated in the APU13, and this AMD developer Summit will continue until November 13 (Wednesday). The APU13 agenda includes a keynote address by Oracle's Nandini Ramani, who will outline the benefits of Project Sumatra projects and GPU computing for Java. In addition, companies such as Microsoft, Accelereyes and Hewlett-Packard will host meetings in which Microsoft will focus on C + + amp and RemoteFX technologies; Accelereyes will showcase the use of various libraries to support heterogeneous computing, while Hewlett-Packard will outline the HP moonshot high-density server environment it provides for managed desktops. Also, there are other meetings on the APU13 that focus on using the APU server to optimize the various data center workloads.

In addition, AMD announced the launch of a new unified SDK (software Development Kit), which includes the relevant tools for heterogeneous computing developers and faster libraries.
