Based on the best practices in the author's actual use of the RQM process, this article describes in detail how to use RQM to manage test requirements, test plans, test cases, test scripts, test environments, test case execution records, defects found in tests, and use of RQM in the entire lifecycle of a software test. Manage the review and approval activities during the testing process. In addition, it will introduce the management of the test process with integrated optimization using RQM and Rational Team Concert (RTC), rational ClearQuest (Rcq).
Rational Quality Manager (RQM) Overview
IBM Rational Quality Manager IBM is a collaborative, web-based tool that provides complex test planning and test evaluation management methodologies throughout the lifecycle of software development. It is built on the Jazz platform and is designed for use by various scale test teams. With RQM, the test team can manage the lifecycle of the entire software test. RQM provides definitions of roles, test managers, test architects, and testers to work collaboratively on the platform provided by RQM.
Test Lifecycle Overview
Whether it's a waterfall model, a spiral model, or a RUP (Rational Unified Process), you will experience test plans, test designs, test constructs, test execution, and review these processes during the test lifecycle. Some processes are even iterative. The test plan is an important guidance document for the Test team during the test lifecycle. Review is an important means to ensure the quality of software testing, its main aim is to allow testers to enter the testing process as early as possible and to prevent many defects occurred.
Managing software test lifecycles with RQM
With RQM, the test team can manage the entire lifecycle of software testing. Include test plans, test development, test reviews, test execution, and defects found in the management tests and generate corresponding test reports.
Using RQM to manage test requirements
Requirements (requirement) are important to software testers. Only testers who fully understand the functionality of the entire application can write high quality test cases and are prepared to build a test environment. Use RQM to easily manage test requirements. Login RQM, click Requirement->create Requirement in the Quality Management operation category on the left (Quality management action categories), as shown in Figure 1:
Figure 1. Creating requirement in RQM
After you create the requirement, you can then fill in the contents of the requirement. In practical work, the function of the software may be more complex. Different function modules will have their own requirements documents, and sometimes the root needs to be based on the requirements of customers to adopt a certain format. In this case, you can copy the contents of the document to RQM's requirement, edit the requirement, and add the appropriate content, as shown in Figure 2:

When you have finished adding requirement, add the corresponding Reviewer and approver to review the requirement content.
