One of the tools that is powerful for blogs and websites but not fully used is to tag a page or blog. It is not easy to use good tag effectively. In this article, you will use a few examples to illustrate how to use tag to maximize its effectiveness, as well as the issues to be noted and some advanced strategies.

First let's look back at some of the ways you can organize your website/blog content. The first is by theme, most blogs and CMS platform called "category"; second, by date, most blogs/cms group content by year, month, day. The third is by the label, you put in the article or page annotation or description composition.

All three of these classifications pose the same problem: duplicate content. If you publish a page, the page will exist independently, and it will exist in the category category, the year/month/day category archive directory, and any tag directory you add to the article. The search engine then needs to identify which page should be indexed to the search results. (SEM watch:rel=canonial attribute use is well-known method, but it seems to be a little trouble) first of all, I suggest using the "noindex" command in robots.txt to block all categories by date, not to be indexed. (Google is the only search engine that supports this command, though.) I will also use "Noindex/follow" for all pages in the date archive, telling the robot not to put the current page on the search results page, but to find the original page that should be included. The same is true for tab pages. If you are using WordPress, you can do this with the Joost de Valk development of the Robots Meta plug-in. So we just have to deal with category and standalone pages.

To solve this problem, you can only display summaries or fragments of content on the category page. There are plug-ins available in the thesis topic. If you are not using thesis, use the post teaser plugin as well, or remember to use "more" (view/Read more).

So since we've solved the problem of duplication, why do we want to use tag first? Can't we get the same result in category? Give me an example of how to use category and tag. Suppose you have a star site that includes "baby bump", "fashion", "News", "rumors" and other categories. So what do the characters like Paris Hilton or Britney Spears do on the top of the wave? I will create tags for the stars, and once they are released, they will be tagged to his/her name. Another example, if it is a "adventure travel", "Accessibility travel", "skiing", "cruises" and other categories of tourism sites. I will set up the national, provincial/state and City tag. such as Bahamas, France or Colorado State. You may have a white water rafting page that belongs to the adventure Travel category, also has a label pointing to Colorado State, and there may be a skiing category also pointing to Colorado State in Vail Skiing, which will be linked by using the Colorado State tag.

If you use the Cross linker plugin, you can set any word such as "Colorado State" to automatically link to the "Colorado State" tag page. If a visitor clicks "Colorado" while reading the above article about Colorado, he can visit the tag page and see all the articles you have published about Colorado. I found the links in the article more clicks than the tag link at the end of the text. This will also create another navigation path for both readers and search engine spiders. You can add a link to the label word for each article, but when I want to reduce maintenance, it's easier to manage the whole station.

Another advantage is that playing tag is a more effective way to choose which ads to display. If I only use categories like "family travel", it's hard to know which ads to show. Is it time to have a Disney ticket, a family cruise or other tourist city coupons? However, if you use tag, you can clearly know where the ads should be placed more targeted.

Of course, all of these practices can have some negative effects. You have to maintain these tags, because the use of tag may not be fully controlled, especially when you have multiple authors, (such as SEM Watch) is likely to appear more than one tag is the same. Another problem that can be problematic is the size of the case, such as Google and Google. It's not a big problem if you set the tag page to not be indexed. But it will affect the use of the advanced strategy that I'm going to say next. Frankly speaking, there are really not many good tools for managing and editing tag. I found that the best use is simple tags, although not perfect, but to meet the needs.

Use of advanced tags and cross links

Using the tag method creates a problem: blocking the anchor text on the index page is wasted. Take the example of the travel website above, you certainly want the page on the Colorado State to appear in the index, but it may not be the label of a small city with less value and traffic. So you have to link "Colorado State" to "http://example.com/tag/colorado/". However, what if you are not linking to the label page but another general page such as "http://example.com/colorado/"? Then you need to create a page with an edited content, install the EXEC PHP plugin, and use it to send a WP Query, Automatically lists the tags to the "Colorado State" article. To do this, you need to know a little bit about PHP, but it's not really difficult.

Another tip. If I create the "head and tail" content, I will build a cross link to the "http://example.com/keyword/" page/article. But if there's nothing on the page (or just the "end" of the content), I'll use the redirection plugin to temporarily redirect to the tab page. This is a little bit of a trick, so you can use it only when you have confidence in what you do.

To sum up, what you need to remember is as follows:

1, through the use of tag, you can use a more detailed way to classify the content of the site

2, Tag classification can give users and search engines to provide content of the new navigation path

3, if the text in the content of/tag do link, tag classification will be more helpful to users

4. Tag classification is an effective way to provide more targeted advertising or affiliate links.

5, pay attention to the duplication of content and repeat/like tag minimized
