Microsoft builds hundreds of-person Appex team to develop massive mobile applications

It is reported that hundreds of engineers are currently developing mobile apps for Windows8 tablets, Windows Phone, and Xbox consoles. These people formed a team called Appex, affiliated to the Microsoft Internet Business Unit (OSD).

These mobile applications involve news, tourism, finance, weather, sports, and maps. These applications will be deeply integrated with Microsoft's Bing search engine and MSN Portal. Microsoft developers mainly use HTML5 and JavaScript technology.

It is said that Microsoft's development of these mobile applications, the ultimate goal is not to compete with third-party developers for the market, Microsoft would like to use these applications to Windows consumer and hardware partners to prove the capabilities and performance of Windows Mobile platform.

The head of Microsoft's Appex team is Donald Brian MacDonald, vice president of Microsoft's Internet division, and head of Bing's search core technology team. Previously, Donald had been responsible for a Netdocs project, equivalent to the online version of Office software. But after the development was completed, Microsoft Office was worried about the impact of the sale of boxed Office, Microsoft withdrew the project.
