Nokia sells QT development Framework business licensing and service business

After the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system was used as the main smartphone platform one months ago, Nokia again made business adjustments to sell the QT business licensing and service business to Finnish company Digia, according to foreign media reports.

Qt is a cross-platform application framework through which developers can develop applications and user interfaces once and then deploy them to multiple desktops and embedded operating systems without having to write the source code repeatedly. In June 2008, Nokia bought a mobile software solution provider, Trolltech, with $154 million trillion, and gained the QT development framework through the deal.

Last October, Nokia announced that it would adopt QT as the only development framework for future Symbian and Meego platforms, and would continue to invest in future development of the QT framework as a cross-platform framework for mobile, desktop and embedded applications. Nokia also said it would look for a partner to take care of QT's business authorization and service business.

Neither Nokia nor Digia disclosed the financial details of the deal. Under the agreement, Nokia will transfer 3,500 desktop and embedded customers to Digia in various industries. Digia said the company would continue to develop QT as a commercial platform and stressed that it would improve QT functionality that did not appear in the Nokia Roadmap. Nokia last month announced a broad strategic partnership with Microsoft, using Microsoft Windows Phone 7 as the main mobile operating platform, which is one of the key measures for Nokia's strategic adjustment. Under the agreement, Nokia and Microsoft will work together to build a global mobile ecosystem that integrates their strengths, such as Microsoft's Bing search engine, which will support Nokia devices and services, and Microsoft Bing and adcenter will integrate with Nokia's map solutions.
