Ubuntu 10.10 Set Pcmanx login Chinese BBS

From 8.04 onwards, I used Pcmanx Chinese newsmth, someone fork a gemanx, used a bit not too many attractive places.

Since the upgrade to 10.10, Pcmanx can not use, but I am not afraid to toss. Here's a toss of the steps to write down.

Reasons for not connecting within the firewall

Most firewalls ban Telnet service, so it is recommended to use SSH, more secure (will not be listening to the password) some SSH can not directly connect to the BBS server, then need to use CONNECT-PROXY+SOCKS5 (if there is no SOCKS5 agent, Or just be honest with the web. Starting from 10.10, SSH defaults to the V2 protocol, and the server side still uses V1. Need to use the system to bring the SSH (useexternalssh=1) below is my ~/.ssh/confighost *.newsmth.netuser xxxproxycommand/usr/bin/connect-proxy-s Proxy_server:proxy_port%h%pprotocol 1

Garbled problem

Because the Pcmanx author is Taiwanese, with Big5, and the mainland uses GBK, it needs to be changed enconding (Edit->prefence->site settings->site). You can change ~/.pcmanx/pcmanx.

Font

The default Chinese and English are not very good, you can change to Wenquanyi Zhen Hei (View->font and View->ascii Font) or in ~/.pcmanx/pcmanx
