Article Title: how to view the current Nic version in Linux. Linux is a technology channel of the IT lab in China. Includes basic categories such as desktop applications, Linux system management, kernel research, embedded systems, and open source.

In linux, the NIC Driver is added as a module. Therefore, you can use lsmod to view the currently loaded module, that is, the NIC driver is not loaded, however, only the NIC Module name can be seen here. Other information is not available, such as the current NIC Driver version number. Currently, the main NICs of IBM servers are intel and broadcom chips.

Take broadcom as an example. The operating system is redhat as 3 update 2 x205 for testing.

Generally, when a linux system is started, when the network card is loaded, a log will be generated to write/var/log/messages or dmesg, which contains more detailed information about the network card, include the version number, such

Dmesg | grep tg3 or grep tg3/var/log/messages

Here, tg3 is the driver of the broadcom Nic, but this driver is carried by redhat itself, not provided by broadcom. Generally, this version is relatively low, and the version itself has no reference value.

If the driver has been updated to bcm5700, the corresponding command is

Dmesg | grep bcm5700 or grep bcm5700/var/log/messages

The published document number is displayed, for example

Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Driver bcm5700 with Broadcom NIC Extension (NICE) ver.

8.1.55 (04/08/05)

Bcm5700: eth0 NIC Link is UP, 100 Mbps half duplex

Through the above method, you can intuitively know the NIC version. If it is relatively low, you can update it as appropriate.

Note: The driver module for the broadcom Nic is tg3 or bcm5700 through the lsmod command, and the intel Nic is e1000.
