In the past, open-source solutions such as Apache Web servers and open-source development tools have very low usage in enterprises and are usually used in some irrelevant fields.
However, the current situation is quite different, according to a recent survey of 328 IT and commercial administration and management personnel, more than half of respondents (53%) said, they currently use open-source applications in their daily work, and 10% of them say they intend to start using open-source software in the next year. in addition, nearly half (44%) of respondents said they placed open-source software and proprietary solutions equally important when purchasing software.
Among the open-source solutions currently used by the respondents, the highest proportion is the operating system and infrastructure applications such as Linux, accounting for 78%; the second is the backend database and network server, the proportion is 74%, followed by software development tools, such as Eclipse, accounting for 61%.
These numbers may sound boring, and the proportion of open-source commercial applications is also high. nearly half (45%) of respondents said they are using some open-source desktop applications, such as OpenOffice.org, and 29% of respondents said they are using open-source enterprise applications. the most popular open-source enterprise applications are collaboration tools, CRM tools, and ERP applications.
In addition, enterprise users are growing confidence in open-source solutions. nearly 3/5 (58%) of respondents agreed that Linux is very reliable and competent for key task applications. IT is worth noting that the most trusted open-source technologies are IT executives and managers: 62% of these people think that Linux is mature.
Among all respondents, IT administrative and management personnel accounted for 59%; commercial administrative and management personnel accounted for 13%; IT professionals accounted for 20%; 8% of respondents believe that Linux is very reliable and suitable for key task applications. this also reflects that open-source software is gradually becoming the mainstream application of enterprises.
