02 [Transformer Lecture 3] add manual level and category

Source: Internet
Author: User
In the second lecture, we introduced the relationship between dimensions, levels, and categories. However, in reality, examples are not the same. They can only adapt to most situations. We are encountering practical problems, there will be corresponding design changes for certain situations, that is to say, we need to adapt to the flexibility when designing the model, which leads to the reason why we need to manually add layers and categories.

Let's take the example below to explain that the product sales area is very extensive and may be popular in some regions, but in some regions it is a little worse or even no market, in this way, we can change the design level and category according to the actual situation. We can manually add the level and category in the popular area, and keep them unchanged in other areas, this not only makes the structure reasonable, but also facilitates managers to understand the sales situation.

The following is an example of simple operations. If you are interested, you can perform the same operations on your own. In this way, you will be able to understand such problems in the future.

Step 1: open a model
Model name: Sale and Marketing. mdl
Path: C: \ Program Files \ cognos \ c8 \ webcontent \ samples \ models \ Transformer8 \ EN
Step 2: Create a manual level
1. Generate the categories and receive the warning.
2. Add a level on Retailer country
Right-click Retailer country and Insert Level
Level name: Sales District
3. Click Retailers dimension --> Show digoal, for example:

4. sort by Category
Right-click Retailer country --> properties and sort by Retailer country.
Step 3: Create a manual category in the manual level
1. First select Show diease and click Southern Europe to drag to Sales District
2. In the category label, enter East and click Finish.
In this way, there is an East category under the Sale District level.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to create the West category.
4. Use the same method to create North and South categories on Americas and Asia Pacific.
The result is as follows:

Step 4: establish the connection between the manual level and manual category
1. On Retailer country, click Austria and Shift it to select Italy and drag it to South Europe.
.
2. Drag Spain to the West category in South Europe in the same way;
Canada and United States are dragged to the North category of Americas;
Mexico and Brazil are dragged to the South category of Americas;
Drag Japan, China, and Korea to the North category of Asia Pacific;
Australia and Singapore are dragged to the South category of Asia Pacific.
3. Expand each class and category, as shown in:

Step 5: publish PowerCube to Cognos Connection.
The steps are the same as those of PowerCube In the first lecture.
Step 6: Run in Analysis Studio
How to run in AS is introduced in the first lecture. I will not go into detail here.
