The hardware factors affecting the starting speed

Through practice, I found that the main components affecting the speed of computer startup is the motherboard and hard disk, but not with the CPU. That is to say, under the same conditions, the expensive Pentium 4 computer has the same startup speed as the cheap Celeron 4.

Motherboard is a variety of computer accessories "base", in the boot to do a lot of work, such as self-test, search a variety of ports, various external devices. Therefore, reducing the self-test time, reducing the external equipment and improving the efficiency can improve the start-up speed. If the computer is connected to a scanner, USB hard disk and other peripherals, it may reduce the boot speed of the system. It is recommended that you connect when you need to use these peripherals, USB devices can be connected after startup.

If the network card is set improperly, it will obviously slow down the system startup speed. If your computer does not need a network card, then unplug the PCI card directly, the integrated network card can be shielded through the BIOS, so as not to affect the start speed. Many motherboards on the integrated network card detection far faster than the independent network card, which is also some computer startup "suspended animation", after more than a minute to normal access to the Internet one of the reasons.

The main factor determining motherboard performance is the motherboard chipset, and the primary factor determining the boot speed is the disk performance and driver performance of the motherboard chipset. The main brands of the motherboard chipset are Intel, SIS, VIA, ATi, nvidia five vendors, and the best disk performance is Intel and SIS. Intel is the IT giant, the IT community no one knows, it occupies the motherboard chipset more than 60% of the market share. While SIS is less popular, the motherboard chipset has less than 10% market share, which may not be relevant to publicity, but on the AMD platform, its disk performance is the best, the price is the cheapest.

To reduce post time, some motherboard vendors do some special design that minimizes the BIOS self-test time to 5 seconds. We can choose according to their own needs of different motherboard manufacturers, rather than blindly follow the recommendations of distributors.

In addition to post, computer startup time is mainly used to read system files from the hard disk. The hard disk works by moving the head to read and write data on the high-speed rotating disc (Figure 1). The higher the disc speed, the more data will be read by the head in unit time, which is very advantageous to the system startup. 1. BIOS Optimization settings for motherboards

Turn off redundant IDE channels, USB devices, and other hardware that can be shielded from "None". Automatically detects the hard drive with IDE HDD Auto detection. Do not carry out memory detection, the various cache open, into the "Advanced CMOS Setup", will "Quick Boot" set to "Enable", do not detect more than 1MB of memory.

The "IDE 0 master/slave pio/dma mode,ide 1 master/slave pio/dma mode" hard drive sequence (mode) is all set to "Auto".

Go to the "Advanced BIOS Features" option, move the cursor to the "Top boot Device" option, and select "HDD-0" to boot directly from the hard drive, starting up for several seconds. Move the cursor to "quick power On Self test" (quick post) to "Enabled". Set to "Disabled" for boot up floppy seek (power-on self-test). It is recommended that the memory-quality memory bar be set to "2" in the SDRAM CAS latency option.

2. Network Card settings

When entering the operating system, the system will search for the IP address of the network card. If the IP address of the network adapter is set to be automatically obtained, the system will search the network for the DHCP server to obtain the IP address, which will increase the startup time virtually. If not necessary, it is best to specify the IP address of the network card (especially the client in the local area network, Figure 2).

3. Turn on the DMA transfer mode of the hard disk

Right-click on the desktop "My Computer → properties → hardware → Device Manager →ide Ata/atapi controller → Find the hard disk's IDE channel → properties → advanced settings", turn on the hard disk DMA transfer mode to speed up data read and write speed. The Win98 and WinME settings are basically the same, just tick the DMA options.

4. Give the BIOS ROM thin body

Some of the files in the motherboard BIOS ROM are not available and can be removed using Cbrom, Awardflash, and other BIOS editing tools. Note: This is a certain dangerous operation, rookie or do not move for good.

Third, Windows system optimization

1. Remove unwanted self-starter programs

This is a very obvious way to be effective. Click "Start" → "Run", enter "msconfig" in the dialog box that appears, then click "OK", will bring up "system Configuration Utility" (only limited to Win98 and WinXP system, Win2000 users need to copy MSCONFIG.EXE to the system folder or use the registry editing method described in the following text.

2. Optimize the component's System properties (WIN98/WINME)

Right-click "My Computer" and select "properties → performance → file system". Select Floppy to remove "Search for new floppy disk drives every time you start your computer"; Select "Hard Disk" to change "primary use" to "network server", "read-ahead optimization" to full Speed select "CD-ROM", cache to Maximum, choose " Four times times or more high. "

3. Modify IDE Channel control (WinXP)

Right-click My computer → properties → hardware → Device Manager → Expand IDE ata/atap Controller Double-click the secondary IDE Channel option to select the Advanced Settings tab in the dialog box that pops up, and in device 0 and device 1, in device type, change the original automatic detection to none. "OK" to exit. The primary IDE channel also modifies the same method. After the reboot, the scroll bar scrolling time is significantly reduced.

4. Use Bootvis software to upgrade the start-up speed

Bootvis is the start-up accelerator software developed by Microsoft for WinXP, which is more secure and can significantly improve the start-up speed. Due to the length of the relationship, there is no specific use of the method, interested friends can view their help files.

5. Remove the gorgeous and bloated appearance

Remove the "wallpaper", "Screen saver", and delete the extra desktop icons. If it is WinXP, you can also right-click My Computer, select Properties → advanced, click settings in the Performance item, and select Adjust for best performance.

Mainstream configuration of the computer after the above settings and optimization, under normal circumstances, Windows XP start-up time can be controlled in about 20 seconds.
