1) MSP (single-host Edition)
MSP has many functions. In fact, it is mainly used for WBS (work breakdown structure). The task management mode is still the duration type, that is, the task is defined by the start and end time. For large projects, if the project organization is managed hierarchically, my project plan is only divided into the granularity of Group tasks. The team leaders themselves use MSP or Excel for more fine-grained task decomposition. These files are routinely updated on a weekly basis and distributed to project members.
2) Excel
It is mainly used for problem management, risk management, and resource management. Updates to these files are sometimes triggered by events, such as discovering/disabling a problem or holding a workshop for risk identification, routine review is also required. At the requirement of the organization, Excel was also used for measurement management, with poor results.
3) Word
Most commonly used is for communication management, such as weekly and monthly reports.
4) PPT
Communication Management is a relatively high level. For example, when a leader is fooling around, the customer needs to deepen its influence through richer forms of presentation.
For general project management, the above tools are sufficient. Except for MSP, other tools are familiar before project management.
However, there are several problems with these tools:
1) Version Control: the solution is to assign a dedicated person to update the version or incorporate it into the configuration management tool for version control.
2) information sharing: the solution is to share information through emails and file servers.
3) only single project management can be performed. For project group managers or higher-level leaders, they should look at multiple projects: the solution is to organize the statistics of multiple projects to report the results.
4) Some project process control processes, such as change approval, cannot be supported using these tools
We can use Jira for Error Tracking and project management for the above problems. We are in practice. You are welcome to discuss the experiences of Jira!
