A few days ago Ubuntu 17.10 finally came out, just a few days ago my computer reload system, by the way left a partition to install Linux. So I installed Ubuntu 17.10 on my computer. Installation process is not said, the graphical installation program, basically installed a few times familiar. So the focus is the beautification process after the installation is complete.
In fact, archlinux, Fedora and so on Linux system I have been a lot of trouble, but finally chose Ubuntu. Because Ubuntu and the Debian system are still the big heads of Linux, the software is mostly officially supported. If you use archlinux these relatively small, many things can only be installed through the Aur, then a problem will be flying blind. So in the end I went back to the starting point and used the Ubuntu that I had been using.
Needless to say, the biggest change in Ubuntu 17.10 is to abandon Ubuntu's own unity desktop and re-cast it back into Gnome's embrace. Of course I think KDE plasma more beautiful. But now that the desktop has been replaced by GNOME, then all of the original beautification software needs to be replaced naturally.
Installing the GNOME Optimization tool
sudo apt install gnome-tweak-tool
After the installation is complete, you can open it from the terminal or from the software list to find the tool----optimization.
Configuring GNOME Extensions
There are a number of GNOME extensions available on the Gnome extension site, but the default installation is cumbersome. So you need to configure the plugin so that it can be installed quickly.
Firefox is recommended here because his extended store can be accessed directly, and Chrome won't. From this page, find your browser's extension store installation plugin. So the first step is done.
The second step also requires local service-side support, the above document also gives a workaround. is to install the following program.
sudo apt-get install chrome-gnome-shell
After the installation is complete, refresh the browser, you will find that this time into the extension page will find a switch-like icon, which means that it has been configured. After that we want to install the extension just click on this switch on the line.
Install dash to Dock
Once configured, go to the dash to dock page and install the extension. After the installation is complete, you can open the Gnome optimization tool to configure it.
Installation topics
Gnome themes can be found from this site, and here I find vimix-gtk-theme and matcha Gtk Theme good.
For example, if I want to install vimix-gtk-theme, I need to install the GTK engine first.
sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-murrine gtk2-engines-pixbuf
The theme is then cloned to a local directory.
https://github.com/vinceliuice/vimix-gtk-themes.git
Then switch in and execute the installation script. If you want to install the theme to all users, you need to run the command with an administrator.
./Vimix-installer
You also need to install the corresponding collection of icons.
clone https://github.com/vinceliuice/vimix-icon-theme.git cd vimix-icon-themesudo ./Installer.sh
Then your window will look a lot better.
Theme Modify Installation Oh-my-zsh
This tool does not have to say more than the Linux standard.
"$(wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/robbyrussell/oh-my-zsh/master/tools/install.sh -O -)"
Install Sogou Input Method
Sogou Input Judge Online Although not said to support Ubuntu 17.10, but can be installed and used. To the Sogou input judge network download 64-bit version of the input method, and then install. Restart the system should be switched to Sogou input method, to configure the words directly on the candidate Word right click and select Configuration.
Now think of here, after what useful to add it.
