First of all, we talk about displacement, displacement filter used relatively little, in fact, no matter what tool, its existence, there must be a reason, just depending on whether we will use. Here, we will explain the operation of displacement in detail.
The position of the offset filter is the filter--the other--displacement. Displacement maybe we don't use it very often, but, responsibly, displacement is quite powerful, especially for making some seamless design, with five stars. Next, let's take a look at the displacement dialog box.
Look at the dialog box, we can very intuitive understanding of the displacement. First of all, what does the level mean, the level is, set horizontal to the right distance, vertical is set to move vertically down the distance, in pixels.
The next undefined area has three sub options. Undefined zone What does that mean, literally, we can understand that the area that we don't have a choice is an undefined region.
The first one, set to transparent. This means that the undefined area is filled with transparency at the original position of the selection.
Second, repeat edge pixel. It means to fill the original position with the pixels on the edge of the artwork.
The third one, retrace. Fills a blank area with another part of the image.
Listen to is not confused, feel no way, it doesn't matter, below, we will use a few pictures to explain in detail.
First, I built a 300*300 pixel document and filled it with a green one.
Performs the displacement filter, sets the horizontal displacement +150 pixels, the vertical displacement +150 pixels, does not define the area to be transparent, obtains the following effect.
As we said just now, setting it to transparent means that the undefined area is populated with transparency, now we can see that the green image has moved 150 pixels to the right and down, and the location of its original image becomes transparent, and the simple understanding is that it is set to transparent, that is, the image is moving, and after the move, Its original position becomes transparent.
Friendly tip, when the displacement is set to a negative number, move to the left and up.
Next, we try to repeat the edge pixel, perform the displacement filter, set the horizontal displacement of +150 pixels, the vertical displacement of +150 pixels, undefined region is set to repeat edge pixels.
From the image above, we can see that repeated edge pixels mean that we use pixels at the edge of the original to fill the position of the original, or the background of the solid color, we do not see clearly, below, I use a gradient of the layer to demonstrate.
Next, let's take a look at what's going on with repeating edge pixels.
When we do not perform the displacement image is the left part of the image below, horizontally to the right, vertical downward move 150 pixels, then get the following image in the right part.
After we set the undefined area to repeat the edge pixel, we get the image below.
We have just said that the function of repeating edge pixel is to fill the original position with the pixel of the image edge, so we can understand it intuitively through the picture below.
We mark the original position of the image as a, the position of the image after the shift is labeled B, using the pixels on the edge of the original to fill the position, that is, the B part of the edge of the pixel to fill a section, we put the B part of the Red side of the box in the part of the ctrl+t, stretching up to get 3 parts of the 3 part of the section with Red Square ctrl+t, to the Zola stretch, get 4 part of the effect. You can check it out, look at now we get the 4 part of the effect, with our direct execution of the displacement, set undefined area for repeat edge pixel effect is not the same.
Finally, let's look at the last option to retrace, again, we build a 300x30 pixel document, fill a green layer with the Rectangle tool, set the horizontal, vertical center, the layer size is less than 300 pixels, otherwise can not see the effect.
We perform the displacement filter, set horizontally to the right, vertical down each 150 pixels, undefined area for retrace, the effect is as follows.
This retrace, probably means, divides the pattern into four parts, fills in four angles respectively, the four angle pattern together is the pattern itself. If the pattern is too small to exceed the canvas, the retrace does not work, because it is too small, not even after moving the canvas, how to retrace, the effect is set to transparent effect is the same. Examples include the following figure.
By the way, the displacement is reciprocal, for example, you have shifted to the right 150 pixels, your parameters unchanged, and then shifted again, the pattern came back.
The approximate operation of the displacement basically is this, the actual combat begins.
To create a new document, I'm using a 300*300 pixel here, and I don't know why I particularly like to use this size. Sets the foreground color to #7aa61d and fills the background. Use the Pen tool to draw a tree out, here the color of the tree I use is #035702.
Copy a layer of Christmas tree, choose to live two Christmas tree layers, ctrl+g create layer groups, perform displacement filters on the top of the Christmas tree, set horizontal to right, vertical down 150 pixels, undefined area for retrace, the effect is as follows:
Next, we continue to add the Christmas tree pattern. Copy the shape of the Christmas tree, put it on top, ctrl+t resize it, and change the shape color to #bfe866, similarly, for the convenience of operation, I also used a new layer group, recommend that you develop a good layer grouping and naming habits.
Next, we copy this pale yellow Christmas tree, perform the displacement filter, set horizontally to the right, vertical down 150 pixels, undefined area set to transparent.
Next, the same operation, repeat the addition of the Christmas tree, my final effect is as follows:
Here, the feeling pattern overall slightly monotonous, we continue to add some other elements, rich patterns. Here I use the Ellipse tool to add some dots, the color is #f3f83a, duplicate concentric circles, so that it is properly distributed on the pattern, the effect is as follows.
Below, I added some solid circles, the color is #fcff81.
Finally, I added a number of pentagram, color set to #b6c890.
The pattern is basically complete, but it seems not strong texture, perfect. Create a new layer, put it on top, fill it with white, add noise filters, set quantity 10%, Gaussian distribution, tick monochrome, set layer blending mode to multiply, opacity to 40%.
Next, it's an exciting time to perform an edit-custom pattern.
Below, in the package, find the paper material we provide, double click Unlock, create a new layer to put it on the bottom, fill in the pattern we just made, and change the layer blending mode of the paper layer to linear light.
Save our documents, reopen the paper footage, switch to the channel, and copy the Blue channel.
Select the blue Copy channel, ctrl+m the curve, pull an S curve.
Select the blue Copy channel, right-click, copy the channel, and set the document in the target option to new, save the new file, and so on, we will use this file for replacement. Friendly tips, the replacement file must be a PSD file.
Now go back to our document and perform a replacement filter on our tree pattern layer, and the replacement file is the one we made in the previous step.
Do now basically finished, of course, you can change the color, increase scratches, or even two times processing, our final effect is as follows.
