Background: In the development of telecom industry software, the document has such provisions: two machines using big-machine mode for transmission.
My head is covered, the first time I heard big machine, small end machine. Then it took a day to learn, and now tidy it up.
First, to understand that the big-end machine, small-ended machine is just a storage mode, is the data in memory storage mode.
The smallest unit of data that is stored in a computer is bytes, and when the data has only one byte, a single byte certainly does not have a sort problem.
What if the data is two bytes. The two bytes in different platforms have different sorting problem, in the end which byte put to the left, which byte to put to the right, which produced a big-end machine small side of the argument.
Now we have to understand two groups of nouns:
What is a high address, a low address.
What is high, low.
such as a 16 data: 0x12345678.
From left to right are low address → high address. The high and low addresses are for memory.
On the high level of a better understanding of the low, like 10, from left to right in turn is high → low. High status is for numerical values.
Low address put high data is the big-endian machine storage mode.
Low address drop data is small-end machine storage mode.

In the Java environment, Java programs are written in a big-endian way to store data, because Java is not platform-independent.
In the network programming, the TCP/IP protocol uses the big-big machine way to transmit the data, therefore we also can call the big-machine way the network byte order.
